What will eat this?
is this a prime example of hair algae? i thought it was generally shorter. anyway any ideas on what i could get to eat this. so far astreas, turbo, pencil urchin, conch's, and kole tang are uninterested. this stuff does not spread that much, it just grows longer.
an emerald crab is out.
i am also trying to go crabless if at all possible.
thanks,
G~

My Foxface cleared the small hair algea problem I had in my tank and does a great job maintaining algea control

I too have the simular algea in my tank. I tried all you had done including fox face. The rabbitfish will eat some but was more interested in some of my zos instead so he is in the sump now. So far the only thing I can do is to remove the LR and give it a hair cut once a month. Since I have lots of these stuff, this has become a pain.
I also started another tank covered with card board so no light can get in located in the garage to house a couple of the rock to see if the weed will die. With water running and heater on to keep the other stuff alive. So far after one and a half week, the weed seems to be more green.
Finally yesterday I went to a LFS and got some new LR and got some new LR to replaced the over grown rock. I hope whatever left doesn't spread to the new rock.
Since some of the infected rock has mushroom on them, there are in the sump where the fox face can work on it all day long. I plan on moving more Emeral crabs down there to help out. As with the "dark tank", more rocks are in there now. Will run that for another month or so just to give it more time to see if this will work.
Good luck and if you find some other means, let me know.

Hey Geoff and everybody-
Yup! I've got a nice crop of that in my tank too. I seem to trade one pest for another. Well right now, they are not really trading off, but multiplying. Algae, aiptasia, and the ever-lovin' majano. Deluxe pest kit in my tank. And of course these things are on rocks that have beautiful corals on them too Since my tank is small (29 gal) my choices for pest-eating fish is more limited.
Eeek! that sounded like whining. Nix on that attitude, cath

Oh no.. tell me more about the dark tank that kills... what is inside the rock that required light other than the weed.
I took one of the rock out and use an xacto knife to scrap off the weed. It does trim it close to the rock. Take a while to do but I don't know will the weed come back. I guess time will tell.
