Weird macro algae

I just got this macro algae from a fellow reefer and I've never seen it before. Gave up on doing a search because I don't have a name/place to start...

Sorry, don't have any pics but this algae is easy to describe: It's bright green, no leaves, very stiff and looks and feels like a tangle of fishing line. It's floating in my fuge right now.

Any ideas on where I can start searching? Maybe someone knows of a couple of good sites with photos?

hmm i know exactly what you mean. my lfs has about 3 or 4 different "balls" of that stuff in his tank. i thought it WAS fishing line. but he just told me it was a macroalgae..

i'll ask if he knows what type it is.

i've heard it called "Brillo Pad" algae

Spaghetti Algae or Chaetomorpha (I believe this is the spelling).

It free floats, grows in a "ball" sort of shape.

Yep, that's it Hard to believe it would do much nutrient export, but the pods are all over it.
