Is this Hair Algae

Is this the dreaded Hair Algae it came in on some rock I ordered from a place I usually dont order from,it has just finished cycling
in ro.di water at 1.024 sg. I checked for Silicates and phospahtes got almost zero so Im wondering is it from the high Nitrates from cycling? What should I do to get rid of it? Casey oh forgot pic is below.

Casey, good luck with this. I been flight this Turtle weed (Maiden Hair algea) or whatever that is call for the past couple of months and not getting any where. So far I had try Emerald crabs, urchin, fox face, tang, 2 fingers, Nudibranch, dark tank and the only thing that kind of work is scraping it off with a knife.

I think there are a few battling the same in this list. let us know if you find anything that works.

me too.. I replaced most of the really bad one with new rocks. The bad one are in the sump/refugium. If someone want them, they can have it.

Try a Sallylight foot crab. It keeps mine well undercontrol even on my powerheads.

you might still have the problem with the new rock if the algae has released any spores the new rock will be infested like the old. there is something in the tank that it is feeding on usually phosphates or silica if you take all the rocks out that has algae on it now then if there are spore it will have a lot of stuff eat on and grow.
do you have any macro algaes. I have placed it in the main tank if you dont have a fuge or sump and just keep it trimmed down and if any tips turn white take them out. it will compete for the nutrients that the hair algae is using now.
your phosphate and silica levels may not regester if its trapped in the hair algae same thing happens with the macro algaes it holds them and when it detirorates it releases it back into the water colum.
removeing the old rock and replaceing it with new I think will just be a temp fix unless you completely start over.
IMO

if there isnt anything in the tank that would probably be the best way to get rid of it. on another note when you get the old rock out take it and put it some tank water with a heater and circulation and leave the lights off completely dark. take a toothbrush or something similar and brush all the rocks and rinse in SW and then place in a tub or bucket without any lights for a few weeks. that will give the algae a chance to completely die off. rinse with SW and then refill the bucket or tub and place No lights on it and no hair algae comes back onto the rock then its safe to put back in the tank.
you would still have the LR and the critters in it but it should be hair algae free.
