appears to be a tipped over miniature ampitheater to me but i could be wrong lol

Sure Geoff, that's Padina sanctae-crucis. Judging by the looks of things, your Ca is a little low. See the outer margin of the fans. They are a little transparent and should be chalky white. The white is from calcium carbonate, Padina are the only brown algae that calcify.

OK people, someone is getting a little silly out there.

i think it is a little small for copepods though, maybe somekind of zooplankton gladiator coloseum(sp?).

Spanky-thanks, if you are talking about the very outer edges, then that trasparancy could be caused by the diatom algae hair growing on the edge of the Padina. i just checked the CA and it was at 420, but i will check again on Saturday, my weekly test day. now i can google it and find out more.
