Question

green slime fungus in tank

There is a lot of green fungus-like stuff growing in patches on everything on my tank. My new skimmer seems the be helping but syphoning seems the be the only way I can get rid of it. Then it returns after 4-5 days. It looks just like the green slime globs on stagnent fresh water. My water parameters are perfect and I've cut back on feeding. Does anyone know what it is and if anything eats this stuff? Only my flatworms seem to eat it

Thanks,

Bill

could it be green Cyno? IME there are 3 thigns that cause cyno

Old bulbs
Lack of circulation
Excess nutrients. (lack of propper skimming or overfeeding or anything added in excess.)

just a guess at the green cyno but it is worth a shot

Green cyno would be my guess too. Showed up in my tank where sand had settled on the rocks. Manually removing it and upping the circulation in the effected area was the cure for me.

If it is cyano it must be from the overfeeding and not strong enough skimming that I had been doing. It does grow in very high flow areas and I've got really strong lighting.

Thanks,

Bill

Jeff,

Bulbs are about 6 months old but the stuff seems to grow both in bright and dim places and seems to like flow.

The only thing that I can think of was my heavy feeding which I've really cut back and my previous skimmer was underpowered. I put this baby on-line a month ago and it already is making a big difference in the water quality:
