corraline vs softie

i was doin the normal thing, staring intently at various things in the tank

when i noticed some corraline algae seems to be growing up onto the stalk of one of my softies.

so my question is has anyone had that happen, can it kill off my coral, and if so, what do i do about it???

The only thing that somes to mind is it might be cyano or slime algae. Have you tried to blow the algae off with a baster or just wave your hand by it? See what happens then. What kind of softie is this stuff growing on? Sorry, not much help.

What Dave said is exactly what I was thinking...I'll bet it will blow or wipe off...

well, it's definately corraline. same crusty pink/purple that's all over the rocks. i tried to hit it with the turkey baster, and no luck. as for what kind of coral it is....lol, i'm not positive on the id. i got it at the frag swap here a couple months ago. i think it's a sinularia? but i could be totally wrong. i've tried to take pictures of it. my camera is really bad, but i'll post it, fwiw. the pics were taken right after the light came on, so the polyps arent totally extended, but maybe it'll give y'all a better idea of what we're dealing with (though there's no way i can get a pic of where the corraline on the rock is partly on the base)

hehehe, well thanks for sitting through those!

maybe i should ask for a new camera for christmas. this one distorts colors, and can't focus well. i've gotten some pics of my corals that i thought could've turned out so much better with a diff. camera, because they were almost passible with the bad one..

alright, i'm completely off topic. lemme know what you think!
