If your referring to the reddish fuzz on the branches; it's not algae it's Cyano bacteria.

I second the cyano! The bubbles are the clincher. Blow it off with a powerhead as much as possible. It can overwhelm and smother the coral and it also can poison it, so, act quickly to eliminate it. I've noticed that the cyano will grow on new surfaces (rock, equiptment, so on)and also will attack weakened and diseased corals.

Uh... I think that Johnny is trying to identify the fuzzy red 'macroalgae' that's growing out of his rock...
That isn't a coral covered in algae... it's the actual algae structure.
It sure looks bizarre to me...
I would really hope that that isn't a huge cyanobacteria colony.

Are you sure? I had a halimeda that became covered that looked identical to that-lost the halimeda btw. I guess Johnny will have to set us straight on what it isn't.

Ack... and to think that's the new treasure in his tank.
Well, let's hope for the best...

I wish the second pic had been more stable, Johnny

Size reference? Brittleness?
Whatever it is, it looks like it's been epiphytized by finer hair algae and films, which is not at all unusual.
