I live in Kingsland Iv used rodi water and iv used water out the tap in my reef. I put water straight from tap into the tank and have had no problems but when I was useing rodi my rock and sand would turn brown so I went back to straight tap water and no problems

LOL, that's what they called it, what they did was treat the water, put alot of chemical's in it (clorine ect. ) . They do it every so often........

i would not worry about using an expensive ro/di for a fish only but somthing for drinking water would help alot. i have sevral filters on my house but there all cheap. i start with a standard hole house element filter to take out the chunks and yes it gets dirty. then i have a standard water softener to take a lot of the sulfer and crap out. Finaly i have a little drinking water filter under the sink. they are cheap and dont waste any water like ro does. If you can smell the water and it smells bad comming out of the tap, thats not great water. If you want realy cheap make a housing and pack with carbon and use that as a tank fill filter.

I know its not really practical for some of you with huge tanks but i lately have been using walmart drinking water. Its RO filtered water, so its pretty pure stuff and only 75cents a gallon. So far so good and no ill effects. I was using a local stores' RODI water for 50cents a gallon but ive since moved and they are now a 45minute drive.

can't use tap water
I live right on the beach and our tap water is high in phosphate..even with a carbon insert the water stays cloudy and the green hair algae flourishes. I use distilled water for now at 89 cents/gallon and the water sparkles.
