I've used them for algae control...they need a "stable" tank like any invert...so long as your able to keep shrimp, snails, stars, etc. alive you should be fine...they devour algae (especially hair algae)...to that end once they get your tank clean you'll need to find someone else who needs their services as they will starve with out an ample supply of algae to eat...of course this is kind of a band aid to remove algae...you'll want/need to figure out your nutrient input/removal or it will just come back in time...and you'll want to have a good skimmer running wet and do some water changes...these guys eat algae like crazy but also poop like crazy, LOL!
HTH!
Oh, one other thing, make sure all you pump intakes, powerheads, etc. are covered...I've had two occasions were one of these guys got sucked up into a pump intake...both times I was able to get them out unharmed but they inked like crazy...I can vouch that in a 200G system their ink is harmless...in a smaller tank it might be an issue.
