Question

Phillippine Yellow Tang .?


Has anyone ever heard of a Phillippine Yellow Tang ? They are supposed to look a little different body wise and when they mature , get a brown stripe. I can't find anything on them, my son bought one and was asking me if i heard of them, I would like to find a sight with pic's, .........thanx

i have searched an i have never heard of one. the yellow tang It is found in the pacific and indian oceans, west of hawaii and east of japan. but doesnt mean there isnt one in .. ha

I couldnt find anything either, but the lfs swear's that is what he sold him , and showed him the adult in the display tank, the adult has a brown stripe, with a blue dot,,,,,,,,,,,,,mystery fish lol

In fact it is really the Acanthurus olivaceus, in itś juvenile form.

We have another option that is the Acanthurus pyroferus.
The difference between them is that A. pyroferus has a short nose lihe the real Yellow tang, and A. olivaceus has a round nose as the Paracanthurus hepatus.
It's very easy to see the differences.

I would be it is a Chocolate tang (lemon peel, mimic etc.). They are very bright yellow as juveniles and as adults their head is brown and they have small blue markings.

LOL, yeah i know, his tang has a totaly different body shape than your normal yellow tang, it is a little like the lavender tang, sorta................
