Nitrate Question????

After a few water changes, my nitrates r still at 40, i barely fed last night. Can anyone tell me why they are still so high, i'm getting really frustrated, the good new's is my nemmy is out of hideing and is bubbly again, not shrunk up and stringy. How do i get the nitrates to 5? I dont know what to do.......................

really? I just dont want that nemmy to die, and what i understand is u got to keep the nitrates at 0 to 5 to keep them healthy and happy. i'll take your advice and leave it alone, i dont even want to tell ya how many water changes i've done since monday.

Have you checked your water source for nitrates? are you running bio balls or a pad filter?

droping down nitrates is a slow process that will take weeks if not months of water changes and rushing is not going to help... Having a deep sand bed about 5-6 inches and good waterflow like 25-30x will help. The water flow helps push into the rocks and drive it threw the sandbed for natural denitro. Dont chase numbers for numbers sake. Look at your animals and they will be your best indicators.. If you shock them by changing the environment to fast thats worse than doing nothing at all.
