I buy a lot of stuff off of craigslist for the hobby... I always make sure that someone knows where I am going, and the person that I'm seeing knows that someone knows where I am. I don't know if it will prevent me from getting shanked, but I would hope that my chances go down.

I always think of the possible dangers when having someone come over to buy or trade frags at my home. Good thing I don't have a lot of good stuff to steal... with that said I one time went over to a guy's house and there was a billy club next to the door as soon as I walked in (for his own protection), then I noticed a 8 inch knife next to the fish tank. I just about jumped out the window, but everything worked out okay. In hindsight I should have booked it out of there.

I think the boost in the information age has given wakos an avenue they never had when I was a kid. It's a shame.

I too am pretty leary of people I don't know. I have an extremely large dog though (weighs nearly as much as I do), and he loves his mommy and daddy. Would hate to wittness what he would do to somebody with malice in mind. I know my wife sleeps much better with him in the house when I go out of town.

And I'm not all that trusting of pics and things on ebay, so much of that seems as though it can be false info. I know when I see frags and other items in person, if it is what it has been advertised to be and I can quickly bring it home rather than have questionable shipping... but then again I'm kind of "old-school" with a lot of things like that.
