Live rock Selection: Fiji, Marshall, Namoli, Tonga (Yikes!!! its all too confusing)

I would love some guidance on the most interesting choice of live rock. I think I want porous, but, beyond that, I don't know what to choose. Would certainly pay a premium for the nicest. HELP!!!

I feel thats mostly up to you...what appeals to you....I have a littl Fiji...Some Martshall...and some Tonga Branch...I like the Tonga Branch I wish mine was just a little smaller, but some day it may look better in a 6 foot long tank with some more....

Good luck finding Tonga or Tonge Branch, what's out there for sale is all that's going to be out there.. Tonga has stopped exporting all rock.

I must have got lucky....My tank is getting cleaned up as we speak.....some little tricks I did...and I am getting some real nasty stuff out of it.....I will post a pick of my tonga branch when it is clearer....I did not know about the Tonga Tony....I got it about 3 months ago....at Elmers A place in Monroeville ...close to Pittsburgh......about 120 miles away from me....nice place though...

The link below is a gallery of LR that one of the LFS's in my area put together...

http://www.salt-city.org/gallery/bro...p?c=53&userid=

It should be a help in seeing what the different types look like...I would definitely look for very porous rock...the lighter it is (aka more porous), the better it functions...people seem to forget that one big reason we add live rock is as a biological filter...otherwise we could just add some dense rocks from out back yards, LOL!

Otherwise I think it's pretty much aesthetics and what you prefer the look of.

Forgot to mention that my rock is for a 28 gal nano tank. Does that change what I should look for? If I tell a dealer that, will they send me a bunch of tiny pieces?
Actually, what size pieces DO I want?

Live Rock Selection

Hello, there certainly are a lot of options available, and I can tell you we try to keep it that way so we have something for everyone. Usually we can help you customize your order to get what you are going for. There are desciptions, and some pictures of examples if you check out our livestock availability list. Just visit our website, click on the livestock link, and under the photo at the right click the hyperlinked Livestock Availability List. I would provide you guys a link direct, but I haven't posted enough yet.

Someone already correctly noted that Marshall and Tonga rock are no longer being exported. However, we do have some very nice premium rock from Bali and the Indo Pacific region coming in with some of the same beautiful unique shapes and life we came to expect from Marshall and Tonga.
