opinion of A & B Aquarium and Sports?

A & B Aquarium and Sports
9117 Greenville Hwy
Spartanburg, SC 29301
(864) 576 4995

I am not familiar with these guys at all. what do they carry? fish, corals, everything?
how is the selection? price?
how do they stack up to oceans floor or aqaurium oddities?

i was thinking about driving up to exit 66 on I-85 but thought i would get an idea of what to expect first...

thanks!

Expect it to be a great place to buy shotgun shells or a new rifle, maybe a new Glock... Last time I was there they barely had any marine fish, no corals, but lots of FW stuff. I hope that it has improved a bunch if you're going to make a special trip there, otherwise head on over to Ocean's Floor or Aquarium Oddities in G'ville.

A nice little multipet shop in Shelby, NC on a side street near the WallyWorld, and Asheville is not but 60 miles awaywith 2 shops that I haven't been in for a while; otherwise, you're probably going to be a bit disapppointed if you're making the trip just for A&B.

I live close to A&B but have never been. I have however met the A&B staff shopping at the PETCO.

they are thre worst place to go to. when i first got into sw fish We boought our take from them when we got it home my wife noticed it had a glass seed in it. When we tried to get it rectified thru them they said we had cracked the tank on purpose. Thankfully Perfecto took our word and sent us a new one (The owner of A&B told perfecto that we had cracked the tank on purpose lol) anywho long story short they are not really someone u want to deal with another friend of ours went to buy a sw eel that was a special order the one he got was a fw one but he did not know this until after it died when he went to them they told him he should have known what he was buying. Also they tell people to buy damsels to cycle tank and that while u will surely lose them and have to buy more this was the only way to cycle a new tank. Rather than the old throw in a raw shrimp thing. If you go make sure you know what you are dealing with as they do not really know what they are doing. But I dont reccommend them.

interesting....i had never heard of them....i guess now i know why.

why are they listed in our LFS section if they barely have any salt water stuff in stock and have questionable customer service?

So as not to offend anyone? Most ppl don't consider Petco a LFS, but I'm glad I made the list

That place is hit or miss. They have a new guy in there who is trying to turn the place around as far as the sw stuff is concerned. Sometimes they have reasonably priced corals and fish in stock. The new guy (can't remember his name) has a pretty good grasp of corals and sw stuff. I'm not saying that it would be my first choice, but if you're close by with some time to kill, drop by and who knows what you'll find.

Wow... THAT goes way back... I remember the old store being OK when it was behind the Haywood mall, but that was a LONG time ago. I can't say I've been in there in MANY years.

ah, yes, tom.....memory lane....
actually back in the 90's my roomate had a FOWLR tank. that was my first real exposure to salt water tanks. i would go with him to the old CPC store behind the mall every few weeks or so. decent selection and good prices. i would even buy a royal gramma or an arrow crab once in a blue moon to put in his tank (hey, it was my apartment too!)

that really is what got me interested in having a tank of my own one day

the new store at the end of woodruff near laurens has been questionable at best lately

After CPC was robbed and an employee killed the owner lost all interest in the store. It steadily went downhill from there. It is closed now. Once upon a time it was a nice pet store.
