WilyGuy's Oceanic BioCube 8G Official Build Thread
Wow, that's a mouthful.
This is my Official Thread (the first "Build" thread I've ever started as I came in with a tank already started).
So HERE it is :
Yes it is still Dry. I am waiting for work to tell me when the office is moving and whether I can start the tank there. If tomorrow answers that question, it'll get going this weekend.

Welcome to the buildoff Scott! I almost got a tank at work too,.. then they moved me to a smaller desk and I don't have room.
Have fun with it!

Well, I found a few threads about this tank and have similar plans to many of them. I plan to replace the pump in the tank with MiniJet 606 and adding a Hydor Flo deflector on the output.
Not surprisingly, I will also be ditching the BioBalls and Carbon cartridge. I am hiding a heater in the first section, hacking the plastic between 1 & 2 to improve flow and am hopeful to put Cheato in the 2nd section. My understanding is water height is key in that chamber.
Light to the Cheato is going to be interesting and I've seen a few plans, but the idea of lighting it and constantly cleaning some glass does NOT excite me. There is an alternative thought to go with LR Rubble, but this is not going to help me with Phosphate and Nitrate removal. Perhaps I will drop a bag of Phosguard and Carbon in section 1 and stay with LR Rubble in 2.
As they say, we'll see. Guess I should get some water in there soon
We'll see when the parts arrive and if I can get the sand and LR at that time.

Yeah I look forward to seeing it too. I have had it in my car ready to cart into work the minute they tell me OK. It comes out this weekend for some mods and MAYBE I'll set it up. Unsure at this point.

So you say you want pictures?
Well I got some parts in.....
AND started some mods....
I cut a larger hole from Chamber 1 to Chamber 2. I removed the BioBalls and the False floor in Chamber 2. I have the heater in Chamber 2 right now, but it will live in Chamber 1. I am running the filter for "right now" until the dust settles.
I pulled the standard pump and dropped a Minijet 606 which should give me about 160GPH over the 106 from the stock pump.
I hooked on a Hydor Flo wave maker which will bust that flow around the tank in a more random fashion that I am hoping the corals will dig.
After a little Carib Sea Pink Live Sand....
did I mention Water....
I'm up and in the running.
Plans include some base rock and maybe some tonga rock (live) on top. I plan to let it run a little before I work the Live Rock rubble into the "sump" of chamber 2. I'll move the heater and get the cycle

cool. Reg just installed the minjet 606 in her 8g bc today. We were gonna add a FLO as well, but MD was all out. When we move the tank to her office, we'll be dremeling the overflow to make it larger as well.
Looking good.

Those are great little powerheads. I've used them in the past to create custom waterfalls in a chameleon enclosure. Powerful little guys for how small they are.
