I'm waiting to see how those palys color up. We picked up those frags last week when we went to buy a tank setup. The guy gave me a few frags for free with the equipment. The guy said that they had been in poor conditions for a while, but though they were nuclear greens. We'll see how they color up. They do look a bit like nuclear greens under actinic in the morning.

Before they moved in with me, they were originally in our 29g. Until about 2 months ago we had really bad lighting......the poor paly's had to stretch high to get light. We were hoping they would shrink back down under the right lights, but didn't happen.

The bulbs are 10w each. They are small fountain lights.

keep an eye on those, they come as standard equipment on a couple fountains that the large retail chain I work for stocks.
I have seen water intrusion and subsequent lamp failure on the ones we have here after a few months use.

I pitched the bioballs a long time ago, i replaced them with LR as a temporary fix until i could put in the fuge. So i have spent countless hours reading build treads for the biocube 8 and it seems this guy has the plan I like the most (both pictures of the before and after chambers came from his tread). So here is the plan for the fuge:
This is what i want in the end. To start it out, I will put in the LR, the Cheato, carbon and filter floss. I have a heater already, but it doesn't fit in the first chamber. I will eventually get the 25w Visi Therm Stealth but it's not a priority. I'm not going to immediately upgrade the pump either.....but I will put in a Mini-jet 606. I'm also going to increase the flow between chamber 1 & 2 by cutting away some of the divider. The only thing I may never do, but is in the picture, is the Hydor flow, I most likely won't add that.
So that's the plan...........any input?????

Hey - thanks for your PM about my 14g - I've been obsessivly reading your thread - LOVE your fuge plan! (I'm not peaking ahead yet to see how it's going - but wanted to ask a question before I forget) Last night when I set mine up - I put my heater in the pump chamber - any reason NOT to do this? Thanks! Kim

Sigh...another tank with great aquascaping. The competition will be tough!!
As for flatworms, they are very difficult to get rid of.They have been an eyesore in my 46 since the summer. After seeing what happened when I flatworm dipped a couple of pieces of rock in a 5 gallon bucket, I now know why you need to do 50% water changes and run carbon. The water turned a rusty brown and took on a distinctive funky odor. I have to say, no flatworms survived the treatment though.

I don't know a good or a bad for it being in the pump chamber, all of the build treads I've read, I have never seen someone put it in there, but i have read more treads for the BC8 than BC14 and space is a bigger issue because of it's size, chamber one is really the only option for my size tank.......or the display or course.

Yeah......it looks like my flatworm sagga has not ended, I saw a few on my glass. But I have definatly learned my lesson about dipping coral. I'm going to dose FWE agian with my next water change. I think I'm being to conservative with my doses, I've read to many horror stories.

The little multi part seal where the black plastic is shoved into the test tube like housing of the lamp, leaked.
It started out looking like condensation inside the glass, then worked up to the point where the glass was half full, and the lamp failed.

the water level in the pump chamber is inconsistent due to evaporation and the water level will drop below the recommended water height on the heater. this can result in damage to the heater. the heater needs to go in a place where water level is consistent

Get a stealth heater, its thermo plastic and has auto shutoff, or ATO to keep the sump level constant.
