RCHammer's Nano Build

Hi everyone, this is my Nano entry. I'm so excited to be a part of this. The main idea with this aquarium is to have one restriction, the size. This aquarium is the result of everyone's advice and knowledge I have picked up from forums like this. The system description:

15 gallon Truvu aquarium w/overflow
15 gallon sump
DIY stand
CSS 65 Skimmer, will upgrade to an octopus
Current 70W MH
Ocean Motion 2-way squirt
MagDrive 950-return
Magdrive 700-CLS

My stocking list will include a mixed reef, I would like to try my hand at sps but I love LPS and soft corals. I will have one clow, she's the reason I'm building this aquarium, and maybe one other fish, Yashia Goby? Here's the pictures from the beginning:

The stand progress-

The tank-

Equiptment-

Almost Complete-

Thanks again everybody. My current status is waiting for the OM2-way and finishing the stand and getting everything together. This is my first self-designed aquarium and my first attempt at plumbing and building a stand. I have had some experiece but not in this way. Hopefully it all goes well. Peace,

~Ryan

You know, I'm retarded, RCHammer is my username on another site, I hate myself. Which light bulb for a 70 watt MH Current fixture would you use?

Hello! Welcome to the build.

I can change the name of this thread if you would like,.. If so shoot me a PM and let me know what you want the new name to be.

I have a couple suggestions

1. Do you have the MH fixture yet? If not I would seriousally reccomend a 150W MH, even they don't put off a whole lot of light, and I know the 70W ers are less than them,.. especially when you start getting into the lower PAR bulbs.

2. The CLS,.. First I would NOT use a Mag drive external,.. Some people have had no problems with them,.. but I haven't had one yet that didn't leak, even MD says there not for external use on SW tanks.

Second,.. I would put a small length of rubber pipe coming into, and out of the pump,.. an inch or two is more than enough,.. this will help prevent vibrations from the pump rattling the piping. If your pipe is 1/2" make sure to get 3/4" rubber hose/fittings, this is because rubber line is measured by outer diamater, and piping is measured by inner diamiter so the hole in the center of rubber 3/4 pipe, is the same as the hole in 1/2" PVC pipe.

Other than that it looks great!

Oh,.. BTW,.. The CSS 65 you already have is more than enough for this tank IMHO,..

Thanks Wiskey, I'll look try the rubber piping. I already have the 70W but I would really like a 150W but I don't want to fork out that much money now. do you think I can keep sps in this tank? Thanks again. Peace

I've never done any research or testing on the 70W MH's,.. and I don't know anyone who has,.. basically I don't know.

If you suppliment it with floressents I bet you would be just fine,.. but I don't know about the MH by itself.
