Nothing to it but to do it

I have been looking at the build off for a couple of weeks and I guess its time to take the step.
I have had a 30 gallon tank sitting here since I swapped it out for a 40 breeder as a sump under the 90. I pulled it out and set it in the basement 6 months ago. The DSB and the old rubble is still in it from its past life as a refugium. My wife has asked a number of times if i was going to do anything with it or just let it sit. So. I will have to move a TV, build a stand, get it cleaned out and set up before I am told I cant have it down here.
I am going to try and use a HOB filter and skimmer. Power compacts for lighting. If the filter does not get the job done I will put a sump beneath it and put a skimmer in the sump. That being said i will have 30 gallon display and no sump or a 30 gallon display and a small sump.
I am thinking of putting Ricordias in here and a couple inverts. I don't know what kind of fishes I would put in here but I am sure something will come up. I will add pictures when I figure out how. OK?
I hope this is what i needed to do to get started.
Thanks

Thanks for the support!! I have some rock that was in a tank I had up 20 years ago. What would happen if I used some of this old rock as base rock in this tank?

Probably nothing,.. is it live rock? Was it ever used in a tank that was treated with copper? Was it exposed to anything nasty as it sat?

Welcome to the buildoff! Looks like a great plan, have fun with it!

It was from a reef tank I had up when bell bottoms were cool. Never treated with copper as far as I can remember. I took the tank down put the rock in plastic bags and set them in the Michigan basement. I set the rock out on the deck all summer and I have had it in this 30 with heat and a filter for the past 6 months.
Any help is appreciated.
Thanks

As long as it wasn't treated w/ copper or got funky chemicals on/in it I wouldn't worry about it.

LR never dies it just turns to base rock and starts over

Are there any opinions on whether or not I can filter a 30 with a Marilneland HOB and a CPR HOB skimmer. The Marineland is one of the big Emperor with the twin bio wheels. I want to go bare bottom and run a 36 watt UV lamp. I can do weekly water changes and replace the filters regularly in the filter.

if you replace the filters very regularly I don't see why not, however if it is bb and you can syphon it regularly I don't think it's needed, especially ifyou have a skimmer. i would say just skimmer and rock and good husbandry

I used the penguin version for a while, but I just put sponges and poly filter in it for mech filtration, cleaning it regularly.

Thanks for the reply. I have redesigned the stand twice since last night and have been online all morning looking at cameras. I really didnt plan on spending money on this.
Any quick tips on a camera? Might as well take whatever I can from this and if that includes learning how to take and post pictures thats cool...

If you are going BB I would definitally reccomend a skimmer over the HOB filter.

Thanks for the welcome. I am working on supercharging the biological filtration on the HOB. I hope to get a camera this weekend and I will post some pictures of the upgrade on the Emperor.
