My 14g BioCube

Hi! I decided to go ahead and enter my new BioCube into the contest... I have to say it's not the most unique or cost effective design - but hey - it's a nano and this way I can keep track of what I'm doing!

For some history - I've decided to get into marine fish breeding - I've always been a huge animal lover and have dove in headfirst... It's mainly going to be just a hobby - I'm really excited about it! However - we're moving as soon as we sell our house... Now - how soon that will be I'm still not sure - but hopefully it'll be sometime within the next year. So - I'm not going to start building my breeding system until we buy our new house and I can plan out my new fish room... Trying to make a long story short - but I started trying to get clownfish to pair up now - in hopes that in about a year and a half or sooner they might start spawning... Hence the need for my 2 new Nanos! (The other one I can tell you about - but I started it about a month ago that one is a 12g NanoCube... Maybe I should give it its own thread here in the contest? Can you do 2?)

Ok - so when I started my 29g main reef tank, I started it with a black ocellaris and later added a true perc. Although you can breed these 2 and create a 'percullaris' I don't really plan on that. But I think they're a unique pair and love their look in my main tank.

From what I've read and spoke with other breeders about, orange ocellaris is the easiest clownfish to start breeding with, so I decided I needed to track down a pair. Well - I happened to find a year old large one that a local breeder had just sold to a LFS so I went and bought it and also bought the smallest other one they had there hoping to create a pair. This was about 3 weeks ago and at that time I didn't really have a 'home' for them. So before I brought them home - I bought a divider for my 29 and put them in 1/2 of it... At that time I had already bought my other 12g (housing a GSM pair) and I knew my husband wouldn't let me buy another tank! Again - trying to make a long story short... we both hated the divider... (I'll post a pic of it later) so I finally convinced him to let me buy another nano for the pair! (Convinced him it would be my valentines day present, and since he's going to be out of town for v-day, I think that helped )

My LFS had a 14g BioCube by Oceanic there for $259 w/ a $35 rebate... I did some research and could have bought it online for a little cheaper, but I believe in supporting the LFS as much as possible. He really is a great one and I do believe that if we don't support the LFS eventually it could really harm the hobby.

So - last night I brought it home! I had plenty of extra LR from my other 2 tanks - and I also used just a bit of sand from my other tanks as well. Thought about going BB - but just decided to do a very shallow sand bed for appearances. My LFS sent me home with 2 large buckets of SW (I use his water still for now) and I started assembling the tank.

My LFS had suggested removing the bioballs and after confirming that here - I did and got it up and running! I took about 5 gallons of water from my 29g, then used the new water to fill it the rest (used the remaining for a quick water change on my main tank )

Ok - so time for pictures!

Here is the room shot - this tank will be in my kitchen as I already have one in my living room and one in my bedroom! (I have to still pick up the light timer today - so the cords will all be behind the tank once I get that set up... Also - the stand I got when I got my 12g - I'll explain that later)

Then this shot is a FTS - it was this morning and the lights were still off, but you get the idea

Alright! That's the longest short story I've ever heard!

Hmm... After reading Regina's post and doing some research - maybe I should try to turn my middle section in the back into a fuge!?

I need to start doing more reading though because I have NO idea what I'd be doing there! But it might help make the tank more stable, right?

Here is a message Fattony left on my tread about putting the heater in the pump chamber, thought I'd pass it on:

Welcome to the build off Kimsie,

I'm so happy you decided to enter. I'm really looking forward to seeing how your tank comes along and hear more about your clownfish breeding program.
