MGA & Caball362's 10 gallon softy reef

Project: build a softy reef (and to get Caball362 into the hobby )

Tank
-- 10 gallon tank
-- 10 gallon sump/fuge ( still discussing )
-- live rock *marco rock ( unknown ammount at this time will have to see on a rock per rock bases. as some know that is some light rock for the sizes you
can get and want some space for coral and critters..

-- 20lbs of live sand ( +/- )
-- power compact light w/ stands (no glass lids)

Critters and Corals

--different colored mushroom corals
--kenya trees

the rest to be announced. still reading up on corals and nano fish. we want the fish and
coral to thrive not just survive.

Projects planned:

--drill the bottom of the tank and make it "reef ready"
--build overflow baffle
--build a hood (and possibly a stand too)
--build DIY skimmer (still discussing)

we are also looking into how to attach corals to rocks. we plan on getting rubble
and attaching the coral to rubble. that way we can move the coral with out indangering
the corals (we hope)

we should be doing something to the tank weekly. hopefully will be updating this thread
weekly. this should be a really fun learning process for the both of us.

okay.. so far i have bought super glue to glue the mushrooms down. my scooter keeps trying to hide them from me.. hopefully i just didn't do any harm to them. being my first time doing that i am alittle concerned. we shall see...

caball362 bought 3 mushrooms. 1 purple, 1 red, 1 green. we plan on getting more but i don't want get too much since it would have to be put in my tank and my tank is a disaster at the moment.

so far purchases are

3 mushrooms 25.68
tube of super glue gel 2.65

grand total of 28.33 spent so far.

Wow! Good luck on the build ... and the learning experience you two!

Chris ... I probably have some shrooms or a baby toadstool I could scrounge up for you whenever you are ready for them.

Personally, I would try to "tie" the shrooms to the rubble for a couple of weeks instead of supergluing them. I never had luck with the glue and shrooms. It seems to burn them and they just slimed and fell off again. Just my experience though.

place shrooms in a shallow cup with small rubble and let it attach, then glue the rubble where you want it.
