Okay I picked up some water, IO and substrate. Obviously the cats think I have either lost my mind or forgot how to do math. This is a lot of water!

So you are supposed to rinse your sand or substrate. I thought that the live sand in the bag with water was different.
You really want to rinse that too.
That little biowheel thing that came with the tank is huffing and puffing and I filled the cavity with floss to trap the crud. As soon as it traps the dust it all goes in the trash.
Bleh..I am sure in a few weeks it will be crystal clear.

Perry you don't rinse the live stuff in the bag, add it once the temp and salinity are correct,

Did that Vince. Got the water mixed up right then added the live sand. There was a lot of crud that was in the bag that was added too. It is slowly clearing.

Thanks for the compliments.
I stuck a bunch of foam behind the biowheel trying to get all the murk out of the tank and it was full this morning and still all cloudy. Guess I can do that for three days then use a siphon to get the murk out of the sandbed when some of the water comes out to install the skimmer and live rock this week.
This will no doubt settle but I don't want a muckstorm anytime the Nassarius snails surface to eat.

Looks great, I am sure this is going to be one nice build by the looks of how it started. BTW, did you happen to do any research on the black paint and the egg crate? I am thinking about doing the same thing after seeing yours but I worry that a piece of paint may eventually flake off and go into the water. I am not sure if this would pose no harm, or could be a big problem..Any ideas?

I cured the paint for a week and it smells dry but did not use fusion. I am sure that cooking under the lights it will be fine and it is over the water. If our Goby that we add someday has some black streaks and dents I'll take a look at the cover and see if it got a chip in it.

Thanks guys, I originally wanted an open top, but one of the fish I am interested in is a jumper. Even though my cat would find it amusing, I would not, considering I have lost a McCoskers Flasher to jumping in the past.
Anyway, this is a project I can do later. I dont think the tank will see a fish for at least 4-5 weeks from now.

Thanks Mini!
The clouds did clear thanks to changing the foam stuff in the biowheel three times. Now that goes away to be used in the future just for a day to run carbon.
Daylight shines hopefully tonight if the snow did not hold up delivery of the lights and skimmer.
Rock comes Friday so I have to get it all teed up. There are so many nice tanks going!!

Okay by changing out the micropore foam a couple of times the water is clear. I just shoved it into the Biowheel.
Now the water is clear, salinity is correct and so is the temperature. The sand bed is settled as well with the live sand on sale at Petco. Now to dive into the box from Marine Depot.
