Andy's 7 gallon Mini Bow

OK, I am in!
I have an empty AGA 7 gallon Mini-Bow from many years ago.
It was my wifes freshwater tank.
The blue background was a special adhesive aquarium background, which I just removed. Surprisingly it came off in one piece. It was like a really tough vinyl. I remember putting it on, it was like putting on window tint.
I haven't had a reef tank for about 4 years, so I have been doing a lot of research to refresh my memory.

So far I have the following equipment:
7gallon AGA glass bow front tank
Subcurrent surface skimming filter
25watt heater.
Coralife digital thermometer
Small Aquaclear filter
Koralia nano powerhead
Seachem test kits
also nimble nano magnet
Seachem seagel, and purigen

I plan on buying pre-made saltwater and RO/DI from the LFS.

I found my old refractometer, it is about 8 years old. Do these things ever wear out?
I am going to make sure it is calibrated.

I have a 48 watt JBJ powercompact fixture that can sit right on top of the tank, but I really want something more powerful.

I also ordered a custom piece of glass to sit on top of the tank, to keep evaporation down.

I am going skimmerless and I am going to do my top offs by hand.

I want to do a fuge, so that is going to take some creativity.

I also want to do this tank as a 100% aquacultured tank. My only dilemma is that all of the aquacultured rock at my LFS is covered in algae, aptaisia, and sponges.
There are some cool bivalves and sea squirts on it though.

My plan is to set it up on Jan. 26th.

Thanks for looking,
Andy

welcome to the build off

I'd get the refractometer calibrated to be safe. I also would lose the glass-top idea.

Welcome to the build off!
48 watts should be enough light for a 7 gal.

Welcome to the build! I agree,.. 48W of light over a 7G sounds plenty for softie/LPS.

glass tops inhibit good gas exchange in the tank

ah sure.
so say the top covers only the center portion of the tank. the back of tank has a few inches of open water as well as the front. is this still a no no? whats the deal with enclosed systems ( the ones without fans ) how do they deal with gas exchange?

The glass top will also get covered with salt creap pretty quickly and impare the light's ability to get to the water.

I'm not sure what you mean by enclosed systems without fans,.. but I don't think I've ever seen a system that didn't have some prevision for gas exchange,.. though I haven't looked at many of the smaller nano cubes out there.
