Keeping only two tangs can be very difficult.. Some can make it happen and some can't (I personally can't) as much as I would love to make it happen. I've even tried putting three tangs in and that didn't work any better than the two did. I just want you to realize what you are getting into with multiple tangs before getting an order placed. Also, I would be willing to bet that a month is not going to be long enough for everything to fully establish (even with established LR) you will be adding new rock and that is going to need to recure out. I bet this will take at least six weeks and up to eight weeks. Only one way to find out and that's to test as you go.
Can't wait to see what this baby looks like when you get it up. I'm starting to get some prices for my new tank as well (unforunately it won't be setup for a few years lol) It'd be nice to have the tank to look at and know that I can't set it up *bet if I get it before hand I will find somewhere to set it up* lol.

The only way I have found to keep multiple tangs in a tank is to have a large enough system for them. Otherwise its a battle.

I have a 125 gallon tank and STILL can't get it done... I'm hoping with a 12' tank I can finally achieve this feat.
As I said I just wanted DJ to understand that it is not as easy as just buying the fish and tossing them in... They may fight (to the death if they do fight) and the dominant one will beat the crap out of the more passive one.

Well don't want to step on toes here but if you do it in the correct order things should be fine, a granted I think I have been getting lucky on the order...I got a Sailfin about 4-5 weeks ago and put a larger yellow tang in last week and they are not fighting one little bit.
In the past I have kept sailfin and yellow before and they haven't fought. Granted other tang might not have better luck but so far these have been fine....
Oh and sorry off thread topic again...lol

Bit of a different scenario there as well Cary... True both are surgeonfish (tangs) but, completely different body style which definately helps as far as introducing them goes. The types of tangs I've been refering too have been similar body style ones (which seem to be what I keep trying to introduce). Another thing you are doing which I probably hadn't been doing is introduce larger specimens in as you go (I think my yellow tang was larger than my powder brown when I first tried it *now it's the exact opposite* thus it wouldn't pay to try it now either lol)

There were 3 big yellows and a sailfin that got along well in my 90g, but that was before I took possession.

in my dads 125 he has a naso, sailfin and a yellow...they are all doing fine..now. the sailfin terrorized the yellow for the better part of 2 days..he was on the verge of putting it in another tank when they calmed down.

I had a powder blue (A dory) and a sailfin in my 90 and it went into my 75 without issue. They aren't together (lost Dory during a power outage).

as long as your glass isnt tempered then i think drilling holes would be your best option. drill two on each end for the drain, and then two more smaller ones for the returns. good luck
you could also design an external overflow. Holes drilled in the back side with a box on the outside. You just use tank silicone and assemble a half tank lol. a bottom and 3 sides, glue that all to the back of the tank inline with your holes and there you go, custom exteranl overflow. from there the bottom of the box would have your drail lines drilled. I would then consider your returns to just loop over the top like an hang on filter.

ya but with a 90g tank the glass is probably most deff tempered glass at least on the bottom......
tempered can be drilled but VERY CAREFLULLY......need new and very sharp bits and some lube and go SUPER SLOW and dont heat the glass up alot....
i totally forgot about this thread....this thing is almost a year old!!! LMAO
ill be re-setting another tank up in the next few weeks to use as a grow out tank for corals........but its gona have a hang on overflow.....just waiting on the funds to buy a return pump and itll be goin back up....

once glass is tempered it cannot be drilled no matter how slow you go. there is a barriar that you can drill to, but this causes great weakness in the glass. after that point of heat treatment the glass will instantly shatter
