yeah that is kinda common I think. I wanted to get a saltwater tank way back in 1993 but I had to wait til 2006 when I purchased a house I knew I would not move out of anytime soon. I usually had a freshwater tank but I never asked the landlords and moved it in without asking.

"its easier to ask for forgiveness than permission" is a time honored motto for wives and landlords!

That's what I would do.. I never asked my old landlord if I could have a 55... If you keep it close to a wall you should be fine (as long as it is a loadberring wall that is. As the 55 will probably be around 600-800 lbs when all is said and done. (saltwater weighs over 10 lbs/gal, weight of the tank, weight of the rock, equipment *that's what I'm basing my weights on*)

get a slab on grade appartment. My last place I had my 24sw and 30 fw and nothing was ever said during inspections. my 2 places before that I had my 30 fw with out any problems.
just take pics of everything before you move in and keep it in a safe place if there are problems when you move out.
I should say the other 2 apparts were multi level.

The place that we lived before our house here we asked if we could setup a 125 gallon tank and our landlord said it would be fine (was a slab appt 1/2 house). We ended up actually having 5 tanks setup in the place lol 2 20 gallon FW tanks, 55 gallon FW, 125 gallon FW, and the 70 gallon SW.

when I was going into an apt, I had a 180 so I had to tell them, but made sure to get a ground floor. I actually had more trouble finding a place that would take my cute little lizards.

I wouldn't ask and if they ever come in and say anything ,say I thought you wouldn't want a dog or cat that could tare up the place or pee inside.

That's exactly where I assume "Pet" goes... It's something that you can pet... Fish do not technically fit that bill... although you "could" pet a fish I guess lol.

Pets are family as well... So, technically landlords are telling you no family members.... Never thought about it like that before lol.
