Warm welcome, and need of a clean up crew up crew
Hey!
Thank you all so much for the warm welcome no LARK! Its so nice to already meet such nice people in the reef keeping community.
But I already have my first problem, I really need a clean up crew for my nano. My couple snails have died so that only leaves me with 2 peperment shrimp and 1 emerald crab. I really would like some blue legged crabs and 1 turbo snail. So how do you think I could get to the LFS to get that? Cause I do not have a car in lax but my dad will be with me the first day. Could anyone give me a address to the store so we could GPS it?
Thanks so much!
Patrick

Matt at OTP will definitely hook you up. I'm trying to remember but I think he typically has different CUC stuff in stock. If not he is always willing to put it on order.

Welcome to LARK. As you've noticed, most of us buy most, if not all, of our local stuff from Olde Towne Pets. If he (Matt) doesn't have something, just ask him if he can order it for you.

i have a mixture in my tank.......
black turbo snails
astrea snails
cerith snails(for the sand bed)
nass. snails
sand sifting starfish
brisstle worms(KEPT IN CHECK BY THE CBS)
blue leg hermits.....
im not big on hermits but a few do help.....i keep at least 12-15 in my 90g tank and about 30 snails........
i dont go by the X AMOUNT OF CUC PER GALLON OF WATER rule that alot of websites try to make you believe.....
if you over feed you need alot of cuc members,,,,,,i myself am stick to the gills with fish and not much food has a chance to make it anywhere to not get eaten!!!
the big turbos are good grazers but are also bull dozers......theyll knock anything in their way over....
the black turbos(margaritas by some) are great grazers and never stop eating....they dont get as big as they cuzins so there for they arent any trouble...BUT can become hermit food for larger hermits like scarlets and red legs and other larger hermits.....
cerith snails(in my experience) do a great job on the sand bed....but will become food for blue legs....so its a win lose situation with them....
nass snails are great sand bed cleaners, scavnegers and do a great job at stiring the sand bed....
sandsifter sea stars are good cleaners but ONLY IN MATURE TANKS....a new tank will kill them by starvation.....same with cucumbers which are toxic when they die....
im sure you get the idea.......sorry for the leason...i feel like MATT H. NOW!!!!!!! LMAO.........
any questions on any "CUC" members you hav just ask and youll deff get a good answer on here if they are worth the money or not or pros and cons of them....
good luck.........

Welcome to the club. There are a lot of experienced reefers in the group and some newbee's like us. Welcome aboard. I live down by Madison, WI and I buy all of my live stock and supplies from OTP. I stop when ever I go to Lax.
