Sump question...

This is my 1st sump. Here's a quick sketch, please let me know what I might be missing in the set up...

I'd skip the triple baffles...I don't think there is a need for two sets of them. Yes, the can reduce some bubbles, but your distance to the return is far enough to not worry much about them, and they take up another 3" of your skimmer/fuge space. I'd only put them on the right (next to the pump) or left, with a single one in the other space. Remember that the height of the one next to the skimmer determines the water height for your skimmer. Make sure you know the optimal skimmer depth before you commit...also unless you have an auto-top-off, make the return section larger...all of your "water lost" through evap will be evident here, and it will fluctuate...so bigger is better without an ATO.

If/when I redo mine I'm putting the skimmer on one end, my DSB & Chaeto on the other end and the return in the middle again. I split the overflow and put a ball valve on it to control how much was going into the fuge. I've got mine like your design now and I don't like it as much. But to each their own. Like Matt said when you do it make SURE to leave enough room for the return section it will always be the 1st to run out of water and you'll be topping off all the time (mistake I learned first time I did my sump).

looks good...I'd try to incorporate an ATO of some sort as long as you're doing the build...could be simple or fancy, but the constant water level, and not having to top off daily, is a HUGE thing.

I just picked up a Tunze Osmolator, I was amazed at how easy it was to setup and how efficiently it works. Definitely worth the investment in my opinion.

I also have mine split, with the return in the middle, but like the gradual flow across the rock concept. That way all the water gets skimmed (ok, I know not all, but all the water goes to that compartment) and all gets the natural rock filtration. I'd also keep the skimmer section big enough to accommodate a bigger skimmer when you decide you need one

That's my thought too. Having the flow of water and using the rocks as the fliter vs. the LR sitting in another compartment with little or no flow not directly in the path of filtration and water flow...

Haha, yeah like Matt's trying to say. You NEVER know when you might suddenly upgrade to a Bubble King.

Suppose your design depends on if you're doing a refugium or not.....

My skimmer... Not sure what the water level should be yet. Need to test run before the sump divider...

It should/could...you'll have to give it a try to see if the water volume works ok with the output. Let me know when you're over this way.
