I had to drop the 55 in the stand from the top. I have just enough room to get the collection cup out...

OK I have a tank and will start the build of the sump in the next couple weeks. A friend Jeff (ripjohnson) wants to design it like his last one. It looks like a continual down hill multi stage looking sump. I was thinking a more of standard style with skimmer left, refugium right and return middle. This way I can run left overlfow straight down and have a lower flow from the right going into a split with water T'ing up with the left and having a valve control flow to the fuge. or swap return and fuge around.

Maybe pics would explain better.

Here is Jeff's idea

example of plumbing for it. If you look you will see the left overflow dropping straight down. The right overflow branchs and "t's" up with one on right and leads to fuge where flow can be control'd.

Also I would like to not have each over flow going full but rather have one side draining and the other being much weaker (and a backup) and having the output the weak side also.

Very nice. You may want to consider putting some plumbing straps on those drains though just so their not pulling too much. Definitely wouldn't change it though I like the design. Very well planned. Did you build the sump yourself? If so I may be calling on you to help me out sometime.

I've built two sumps now, so let me know if you need some help with whatever it is you're planning to do with acrylic.

I'll clue you in joe.

Odie definitely would take sump #18 and plumbing in #19 then. The cascading idea is cool but you'll never have any water exchange in the bottom of each section. Plus there are no bubble traps to keep those annoying micro bubbles away from your return pump and out of your display.
