Somethings taking out Jasons Corals.

Does anybody have a video recorder Jason (jrmass) can use for a couple of weeks. He is losing both sps and lps. It seems to happen at night and I think he should video his tank all night to see what could be happening.

dun dun dunnnnn.....
sounds like an interesting mystery...following along!
But if it's both LPS and SPS that is interesting...hmmm...
no more temp spikes? is ALK steady? I know Jason is more than competent in the basic tank chemistry...so I'm just tossing out the obvious. Is it STN or RTN? Brown Jelly on lps?

I've recently had a few unexplained...mishaps...
RTN yesterday on a cool LE sps...
A few "nips" out of some ORA & tyreee stuff...
I did a TMPC dip on all the sps, hoping to shake out some nudis or AEFW, but didn't have any luck.

basic chem is fine... the micromussa colony I lost turned into brown jelly but, the acan I'm losing now I can't even begin to explain what the deal is... the heads seem to come out (not fully keep in mind) but, the bone under them is still partially shown yet the coral continues to receed... I can't explain it...

I did snap a couple of pics... not sure if it really shows much other than a receeded non-bleached coral... But, who knows maybe someone will have an idea... think I should frag this acan and maybe save a head? or is it doomed?

Now, why some of the heads are coraline algaed under the heads is completely beyond me (something I had never seen before). All, I know is whatever the issue is... it doesn't take long to wipe out an entire colony. Wiped out my small neon green brain coral in a matter of hours. Also, those are starfish that are in the center of those former acan heads.

id say frag it and get it to someone else who has a frag system setup seperate a DT so to avoid and Possibles. If the coral lives, then it would have to be something within the tank. I would think it would have to be something in the water. If a coral is getting ate you would be able to tell, vs a coral just receding in growth.

Jason...are you having issues with your acan land tank downstairs too? I know it's plumbed into your sump, so have you had losses there too? oh man...taking down the 125...that's a chore. Let me know if I can help with anything man.

I lost my "prize" wellso a few months back...the 6" multicolored one. No good explanation, though my ALK was a bit high. Two days and it was gone. Josh lost a few LPS around the same time for no good reason. Totally sucks, and I feel your pain & frustration.

Oddly enough the only real issues I'm running into with my acan land tank is the orange digi I had in there... It had MAJOR polyp retraction and bleaching but, has 80% recovered already... Which was the main reason why I believed that my issue had gone to the wayside... I did frag the acan I was losing and it was a good thing I did as the side that was bad is 100% dead today and the frag is at least hanging in there at this time (who knows long term though).

Yes, it really does suck and sorry to hear about your brain =(... Seems like lately a bunch of us have been running into stints of bad luck just hope that no one else has to go to the extreme that it seems I'm going to have to come to. Hey on the upside it just makes room for new stuff I guess. *gotta try to find some upside to this*

yeah, loosing the brain was sucky, but it's not system wide and didn't involve taking down a tank like you have
I'd thought about nudis and AEFW...hmmm...
I feel for you...and yeah, you'll have to get more corals now!

it seems like there must have been something lurking in the water. I too have run into this issue and many people in cities this summer. I have found so far doing water changes every 2 weeks has been my biggest help. When I don't my welso gets shrunk up and PO. 2 blasto's have seem to disappear. (Jason I just lost my pink one from you) and my sps I have been losing some here and there. I thought I had everything taken care of in my tank and cut back on the water changes. But I just lost 3 milli's so there must be something there. In the cities they seem to be thinking its some little rtn or bacteria, but no one has found a cure or what cured it. Over time it just clean up. I started to lose my blue miami orchid and it was mentioned to put supper glue around the receading area to stop it. That seemed to work. For many people so far it seems that its not going after all the sps just certain types. I don't know if this would help at all but maybe water changes? If I remember right its been awhile for those?

Oh Jason, i'm sorry to hear about your troubles! I hope the video camera captures the culprit, or you figure out another answer soon. I can't imagine how painful it would be to watch my tank die off. Hang in there friend!
