Interesting about the U.V. Sterilizer... Seeing I have long thought about adding one to my system it does make a lot of sense in the fact that in order to remove the things you would not want in the tank you would need to be able to move A LOT of water through it to successfully get the numbers low enough. Most of the rest of the info was stuff that I already knew (luckily) lol.

I may have a uv for sale but its only good for up to 125. ( I only used it for a month I think). As far as number how do they define how much water has to flow through it. My tank I had it cycle 12 times and hour. It was a 24 gal pod. I find it interesting that he mentions a canister filter to use instead of a UV. Didn't he just replace on issue with another?

The uv seemed to help with my algea but uv also kills off the good bacteria in a tank. Thats why I went to ozone... but there is also a whole nother debate about that one to.

best way is to get ahold of someone from your local club who is willing to give you a cup or two of their sand to get you started... That's all it would take to get the good microfauna that you are looking for.

Sorry for bustin in on your club forum but I wanted to say that I have been making that argument about the UV sterilizers for years but it seems to fall on def ears.

I will have a total water volume of around 250 gallons and in order to effectivly use a sterilizer on it it would have to be about 360 watts which costs around 18 hundo... Not cheap and not worth it.

Did I ever tell you about the time Brasky went hunting? Well anyway, Brasky decides he's gonna hunt down all four members of the Banana Splits. He stalks and kills every one of them with a machete. They all beg for their lives, except Fleagul.

No worries about intruding... Infact we all appreciate the added insight from others outside our club! Anything said in our page has always been fair game to agree with our critique the heck out of =).
