Here is a picture of my rs-80 and 5-3 the rs-80 is on the left, that is about a day and half worth. The 5-3 is about a day on it, it is still breaking in after I cleaned it.

Here is another picture of the new 5-3, and a picture of the frag rack that i built about a weekago. I also built myself a stand to put my saltwater mixing tank on.

Are those Plastic Ties coming down from the frag rack? Do you have something above supporting it? I am thinking about doing something similar when I redo my frag system, currently I made a table out of the eggcrate but with that I can't scrape the bottom very easily.... so I thought suspend it from above and make it a lot smaller so it can be moved easily. maybe put 2 of them in the tank instead of just one large one...

yeah those are zip ties, they are connected to another piece of eggcrate above the tank to support it. I put this right in my 120 because of the better lights.

Chris, is it just me, or is the 5-3 pulling more air than the RS 80? It could just be that the 5-3 is cleaned and the RS 80 has a little bit of grime on the inside, but it looks from those pictures like the 5-3 is pulling more air. If the RS 80 isn't pulling as much air, I wonder why. Perhaps the pump/venturi/airline needs cleaning. I might just be crazy, but it looks like there's a difference in the air being pulled, when it should be equal, if not a bit less being pulled by the 5-3 with the older style impeller. Hmm...

no it is pulling it is pulling more air. The pump is twice the size as the size. The pump on my the skimmer that i just picked up is rated at 560 gph, and the one on my rs-80 is rated at 350 gallons an hour. bigger pump equals more air. I could tell right when I plugged it in that is was pulling way more air than my 80. I can't wait to mesh mod both of them.

Ok, phew! I guess I had thought that the same size pump was used on both. My Lifereef skimmer is supposed to get here tomorrow, but I'll be heading to/from Kansas City for a Garth Brooks concert all day tomorrow. So, I'll have to wait until Thursday to more than double my skimming capacity. I'm jealous of you right now, Chris! :-)

And my Octopus Triple recirc (12" dia x 33" tall, 600 gal rating) skimmer should arive on Friday. Hopefully it woks good. The reviews are that they are better than ASM skimmers and the price was really good. Until then, I'm jealous too.

Chris - Are you ordering the mesh on-line or do you already have some? I will probably end up wanting some for the Octo once it arrives so if you still need to order some, maybe I can go in on the order with you.

A Spazz skimmer would be awesome, but my budget is too limited.

no I am still looking for the right mesh, I am also still reading on rc about the mesh mod. I walked around Home Depot last night looking for something that would work but I didn't find anything. I think that mike might have some mesh still.

Brian that is going to be a big skimmer, where did you get it from? I look forward to checking out your new system.
