One Big Freak'n Skimmer Has Arrived

Well, my new/used MR-3 has arrived and I can honestly say that it is bigger than I anticipated it to be lol... When they say 32"-36" they aren't kidding. I guess after having my Aqua C going for as long as it has been I just got used to that skimmer size but, this thing is a brute! I can and WILL say that this is the LAST skimmer I am buying (unless Jen allows otherwise lol *always gotta leave the option in there after a demand*)

Here's some pics for you all to chew on until I can get it up and running *I went and bought all of my piping just a few mins ago and will begin the endevour shortly*

BTW my dog has claimed it as her new paw holder as well as new chew toy.

That'll work for me (refering to Sunday morning plans). But, I will need some directions as I do not know where you live.
I most definately am a bit jazzed up right now. I wasn't able to finish plumbing the skimmer in tonight because of a bit of a "snafu" sort-a-say. I didn't take into concideration that the distance between the dual intake is smaller than that of a standard "T" coupling. Thus I need to modify the way I was going to run the "T" together as I'm going to be running one pump only instead of dual pumps. So, I need a few 45 degree elbows to make it go (something that I do not keep stock in my fittings collection lol). Anyhow, I should have it going tomorrow after work and as usual I will post pics.

My lights started dimming last night, and all the toilets flushed at the same time in my house....Jason, did you plug in that beast of a skimmer?

Matt, no I did not get the skimmer running last night nor did I test the pump until around 2 hours ago lol. So, the toilet had nothing to do with my new skimmer; although I might have been working on the plumbing into my toilet fishtank you never know!

Man this thing really is incredible though. I finished all of the plumbing after I got home from work (about oneish is when I got home) and after a test with one very small leak (due to me not applying enough teflon tape) which was corrected with relative ease it is up and running. I have already made one plumbing modification (something I thought ahead for) to the system already. I had a flow valve in the link as I wasn't sure if I would need to reduce the flow at all. HAHA this thing blew me away as I was able to go full board thus removed the flow valve entirely! So, this skimmer is taking on a full dose of 1800 gph on the two injectors. (one injector is taking the brunt of it).

Anyhow enough of me jabbering on here are the pics that everyone's waiting for (this was after MAYBE 5 mins of running)

man, that's some foam! You're going to need to add some more fish to keep that puppy (ok, skimmer) happy!

I might now that I KNOW that I actually have the capacity to do so! I'm running the skimmer very open right now so that it would be extremely dark skimmate (nothing getting to the cup yet) which I'll be able to better tune in in a few days.

Well, I have about 1/2 cup of pretty black looking crap. Which is a lot more stuff than I anticipated that I would have after only this short of a time. I've been pretty fortunate in the fact that I have only had to make about a 1/8th of a turn adjustment to the return flow to better fine tune the foam (I'm looking to make it a LITTLE bit less dark).

Anyhow I will keep everyone informed.

Jason

Nice skimmer! I have an MR-2 that I have basiclly turne into a 3. Its important that the injectors run equally (according to MRC) Heres a link to my build with some pics of how mine is set up... http://www.thereeftank.com/forums/f6...ml#post1377650 If you can make the length and contour of the plumbing for each Beckett the same. Actually, I saw that yesterday when I was searching the RC boards.. (Yes I know that I can't buy anything but, it still never hurts to look lol) ***Although that is how this skimmer came about!!!***

Trust me a skimmer for 500 gallons is enough for what I'll need. And it is upgradable with the addition of additional risers and it can have other things added in if required. Thus I have said this is the last skimmer I will buy (unless I find something amazing that "I have to have").

Here's some new updated pics of the skimmer now that I finally have it dialed in. *I keep making very VERY minor air adjustments although it is just for how "I" want the skimmate to look*

Here they are and this is how much crap I've collected since this time yesterday.
