How did you fashion the maxijet with the skimmer? With flex tubing? Or did it just fit right into the hole? I'll prolly go pick one somewhere...just wondering so I dont have to make 2 trips. Thanks!

I just read something about putting food into your aquarium. I feed my fish frozen brine shrimp and read that the frozen "water" or w/e it is...preservatives can lead to "green water" eventually. What do you guys know about this?? should i stop feeding them this crap??? Are flakes better??? I have both...let me knowwwwww.

Well, I personally NEVER feed frozen food as I find that you can not actually control how much you feed. I also find that I can get the same benefits from flake for a fraction of the price. It'd be worth a try seeing that the water changes alone are not fixing the problem. Also, when you feed the brine are you thawing the piece in a separate container or are you simply allowing it to thaw in the tank? I've heard that typically most people (myself included when I feed my anemone's) thaw the frozen food with tank water in a separate container to elimate some of the other stuff that is frozen in the cube.

It'd be worth a try... But, personally I would try flake food for a while and give up the frozen to see if this corrects the problem.

Otherwise there is another option you can try it's a bit extreme and typically used on an algae problem but it might work if the flake food doesn't fix it. You could remove any coral, your anemone, and anything else light requiring and do a several day "blackout". Like I said I'm not sure if this is an algae issue or not but, it could be an option (Matt H. has done it on an algae bloom in the past) so if you do need to go to this level you could ask him about it!

I've done 3 day complete blackouts on a number of occasions...mostly to combat hair algae. It does work, and the resulting water is crystal clear & polyp extension is greater afterwards. Many people recommend doing it every few months, though I've not done it since spring (my hair algae is now gone). I'd say your new skimming will make a big difference, as will reducing phosphate levels.

definitely looks better!!

If you are using frozen always thaw it in saltwater from your tank in a cup or something then strain the water out , as this carries a lot of algae food. Getting any skimmate yet?

blackout

Aquaman.....

If you want to do the blackout let me know and we can fit things in my tank if need be. Hopefully it just keeps looking better on its own though. Don't know if you saw my post, but I ordered Chaeto today to help battle my algae issue...depending on how much comes maybe we throw some in your tank to see if it helps....

I wish you had mentioned that you wanted Chaeto as almost all of us would have just given it to you for nothing. You could've gotten many different strains of it as well as different critters as stowaways on it. I personally bought mine when I first got it as well *before I joined the club* from a guy in Pennsylvania.

BTW I'm glad to hear that the water is clearing up and yes you can tell it is clearing up. What did you change? Did you give up on the frozens which I personally think is the culprit in your issues due to overfeeding as well as using the liquid the food is frozen with.
