new to area
Hi folks,
I just moved to Tomah from Kenosha and will soon be living in La Crosse. I was kinda spoiled by all the Chicago area fish stores and now I'm kinda lost. Where does everybody here go for supplies, fish and corals? Do most people in the area purchase via internet? I've been to a couple stores in La Crosse that sell some corals and fish but I always walk out feeling home sick. I've even considered opening a small shop with higher end dry goods and livestock. Is there a market for it here?

Most of us do our shopping as far as fish stuff at Olde Towne Pets as Cary (carym) already said. Matt (owner of the pet store) is pretty good to us as far as pricing and being able to get most anything in to suit our needs. As far as doing a pet store on your own. I personally have no idea if there is a market for that or not. I know for my own purposes that everything I need I can for the most part get through Matt or I'll drive to Rhinelander or Madison depending how hard to find an item it really is.
Call me curious but what types of tank(s) did you have running or better yet do you have running right now? I'm always interested in finding out what everyone has up and what has been working for them.
Welcome to the area and hopefully you decide to stick around for a while.

Thanks. I have been to Olde Town Pets there was an issue with flat worms and I wasn't sure if that was normal for them. (the owner was a nice guy)
At the moment I have a 50 breeder mixed reef with about 80lbs of live rock. I rent an appartment right now and can't have a larger tank till we get a house.

Yeah he does have flatworms in one of his tanks (you must be refering to his 125 gallon coral tank). Other than that tank he hasn't had many issues. The flatworms may have come in from someone trading him corals at one time. He is being pro-active about it though as he has a wrasse in the tank that has been doing a good job about reducing the numbers.
But, other than his store I personally have not found a better shop in the area. That is unless you want to drive to Madison, Green Bay (Aquatic Imports), Chicago, or like I said to Rhinelander (Fosters & Smith).

Hey now guys, dont forget about the twin cities if you need to go on a fish store road trip. We have some killer stores out here that owned by members of our local club, so they cater to what the reefers want

Hey Thanks. I haven't been to any of those, or heard of them. I didn't think Mundelein would have a store, maybe I just went through the wrong part of town.

Thanks afish I will have to check those out.
I was in Kenosha for the weekend and while I was there decided to go to the cmas frag swap and also stopped at seaschor and sharkysreef. I will post some pics of my finds in a new thread after everything opens.
