ok ... yeah I think about it now there was one that some one had on a timer also and it eventually quit to but it could be restarted with takeing it all apart... clean it... and then hand start. It hasn't been turned off for awhile now I think. I would have to ask him.

I had mine on a timer for a day but the rattle was driving me nuts, then read the same that others have that it will eventually break the pump. So now it is on all the time. I want to replace my other two MJ1200's with koralia's (so many toys so little $$$ )

is it possible to just put the pumps on a voltage reducer? That would vastly reduce the speed the impellers can turn at thus reducing the gph they would kick out basically giving them that " wave maker" result you all are seeming to be after.

Old Thread I know... But, figured I would mention that the K4's I had been using since last year had been running great until today where I had the first one quit running... I'm gonna try to give it a very good vinegar soak but have a bad feeling that it's a goner.

I'm in the same boat, as far as having a feeling that one of mine is a goner. It's rattled since I put it back in water from storage. Nothing fixes the noise, and it's quite loud and annoying. I've cleaned it, inspected it, etc... So I think I'm going to have to drop $50 on a new one. Or maybe I need to buy a "real man's" pump, like a VorTech.

This is an old post... I'm not running any koralias anymore. One vortec and one MJ mod. I'll hopefully be picking up the second vortec at the end of the month!

I have the one Koralia I just won at the last meeting and so far I love it! So, what's the deal? Do they only last about a year? I was planning to get another, but maybe I should spend my money somewhere else??

go for the tunze nanostreams...you can get the smallest one for around $60 or so, do a 5 minute easy modification to get around 1200gph, they are silent, small, and use something obscenly low like 8watts...wide flow too.

I love my Koralia 4's. I don't know why the one started rattling loudly after being stored for a year... Hydor has good customer support, so I wouldn't hesitate to buy another one in the future. That said, I would really love to buy a VorTech pump in the future, but they're really expensive. I'll probably buy another K4 to replace the one that I took out because of the rattling noise. For $50, it's a pretty good buy, in my opinion.

I love my K's also. And Hydor is very good at replacing them. Although I have not had one go bad yet. I have three K-nanos, two K2's and one k3. I love the low power usage and their flow is great. Matt, I was not aware that the Tunze nanostreams were that cheap and that you can mod them out to 1200gph! I may have to pick one of those up in the future

Well, Matt at OTP is going to talk to the rep and see if there is anything that he can do. If he can great if not I'm glad I bought that MJ1200 Mod from Aaron at Cary's meeting as this is what I have to replacing the missing K4. I was not aware that the nanostreams could be modded to 1200 either. If I can scrape together the money I may just see if I can't "invest" in a used set of Tunze 6200/6100's *whichever* and get a controller so I can get the wave effect in the tank. Who knows... Guess I'll see how this pump situation comes to conclusion and worry about what to do next after that. Maybe I'll just get a pair of controllable K8's *big smile* (3600 gph each).

I just got a new K4 off eBay for $35 plus $10 shipping. The seller has two more left at this price, so here's a chance to get a K4 for a pretty decent price if you need one or two of them. Just thought I'd give a heads-up on this, since we're reviving a "dead" thread about the Koralia's.

Yeah, I will join the club here with dead K4, I haven't got mine soaking yet, but it wouldn't start back up one time when I turned it off, I got a replacement already so not overly concerned but I don't want to have to replace them every 1-2 years, I can't remember when I purchased mine.

If it didn't start back up, I'm betting it's probably calcium buildup that's keeping the impeller from spinning. Hopefully a good vinegar soak will get it running for you, Cary. I'm hoping my other K4 doesn't start having problems; if it does, I'm going to replace it with something else...
