They seem to have more of a "Y-shaped" flow pattern than a cone-shaped one. So twist them around a bit and play around with placement on the glass and you'll find a setup that works the best for you.

I got 2- #4s also yesterday and agree that the flow pattern is much more dispersed so you don't get the jet effect. I didn't have the time last night to play with it either, but don't think that the 4s would be any problem for you.

Alright you guys talked me into it. Think I'll head over either today or next Friday depending on how much time I get today.

Let's put it this way: I've got two #4's in my 75gal sps tank, and I think another couple wouldn't hurt, since I could still use some more flow. :-)

You talked me into the 4's Joe and I'm glad you did... **** those things are impressive. HUGE amts of flow directly out of the pump but, spreads out very quickly which is EXACTLY what I was looking for. I've even since retired out both of the MJ1200's I had in there. Although those will be going to a good home in my frag tanks once they are started. Thanks again Matt for holding onto these for me.

Ok, I think I have mine adjusted now, I got 2 from OTP's and 1 from Dr Fosters (had a gift certificate from christmas), got some tweezers, scissors and a phosban reactor as well. I put two in the corners and one in the back behind the rocks, I do have one of them on a timer and it working pretty good, a little chatter on startup but it is running.

I was worried because when I first tried them on the timer I have it didn't work, so 2 are running 24/7 and 1 on timer with two other MJ power heads for Wave action. I am going to try and get a second one the timer as to get better wave action then just continous flow. The one behind the rocks I will need to play with because it isn't attached to the glass just laying on the rocks and I don't like that but what can you do.

People recommend that the Koralias not be used on timers. They rattle on startup, and apparently that will get worse over time and possibly damage the pump. I remember a bunch of people saying not to "control" Koralias on Reef Central a while ago. Maybe that thread is still around somewhere if you search for it.

I know I saw something about the rattle but I didn't see anything about it getting worse, I guess I see it as ok it rattles as long as it doesn't get worse then its ok, I can deal with a little rattle, I am hoping it gets better. If not I will just have them on all the time, then I will definitely keep the MJ in there for wave action.

What you need is a controller that slows but doesn't completely stop the pump; I think the Seio controller might do that, but I'm not sure. I just have mine running 24/7.

I have seen multiple items to watch out for with these on timers:

1) Chatter on startup
2) fish or invert's getting caught in prop.

Well they have guard that can be placed over the prop's now so, I am not sure if that is as much concern. So, only concerned with the startup chatter, so any experience with it actually causing problems with the pumps or it just annoying?

I had one progressively get worse on a timer until it quit... So I have them all on w/o the timer now. I figure I'll just save for some vortecs

Well took them off the timers so they are going to be running 24/7.
