Well I don't think he will be destructive to begin with at least last night and this morning he hadn't knocked anything over, and he is suppose to be reef safe with caution (the caution part is when he gets larger he might knock stuff over). Most of my stuff is glued down pretty good or they are larger pieces that he shouldn't be able to move. I am not sure if the fish was alive but I know I saw him swimming in the morning and Robyn saw him swimming later that day but when I got home from work that is what I saw.

oh ok.....i really like them lobsters and have wanted one since i got into this but the "destructive" nature has always kept me away from them.....

i thought about adding one to the 75 when it goes back up for the lion and green spot puffers......i figured that would be a large enuff invert that a fuzzy dwarf and the small gs puffer wouldnt hurt it....

Cary, is that serpent star the one I sold you when I tore my tank down before my big move? If so, I'm not surprised it gobbled up a fish. It would viciously compete with fish for food pellets that hit my sandbed, and anytime I fed raw shrimp to the fish, it wanted shrimp more badly than the fish... You may want to dedicate some feedings to him, since he's a hungry bugger.

That's a cool shot, especially since it probably only took seconds from the time the fish was caught by the serpent star until the starfish had completely devoured the fish. Of course, there is the downside of losing one of your fish...

Glad I popped onto the LARK forum for a minute and saw that cool shot. I hope LARK and all of you back home are doing well.

Enjoy the holidays,
Joe

Thanks Joe, yes that is the same one I got from you, this as the first incident with him and yes I am going to start dedicating some food for him, I will feed him silversides every couple of days. Hope your enjoying it down in TN and great to hear from you again.

How big is the serpent now? Feeding him raw shrimp in my tank, he grew like a small child... As scary as it was seeing him compete for food (knowing the potential danger to my fish if I didn't feed him to his liking!), it was cool watching him go after chunks of shrimp and attack my feeding stick when I'd dangle shrimp in front of his "home" in my rockwork.

Tennessee is nice. It still gets cold because I'm up in the mountains, but there's not much snow and we occasionally get a day when it's in the 60's. I've contemplated moving back to WI/MN in the future, because I still love the area up there, despite the fact that I hate snow and shoveling.

It's strange that it's coming up on a year now since I broke down my reef. I want so badly to have my reef back... Dang apartments that frown upon huge quantities of water enclosed in glass in your living room... Of course, since I've toyed with the idea of coming back to the Midwest, I REALLY don't want to get a tank started and then have to tear it apart again. But, at some point my 75gal tank will leave my parent's basement and meet water and aquatic life again. Hopefully sooner rather than later.

Out of curiosity, was that a royal gramma that became a delicious enemy of the serpent star? It didn't look like a big, expensive fish, so that's good. Has he climbed up your rockwork trying to get food yet? He did that all the time in my tank if I was feeding flakes and not giving him some attention (food) at the same time. Entertaining creature, for sure.
