Friend has a Prime 1/15 Horse Chiller and needs advice
So my friend, who isn't in the forums becuase he is too lazy, bought a new Prime Chiller for his Red Sea Max 34 gallon Nano and isn't sure how to plumb it to a return pump since he doesn't have a sump.
His return pump is a Quiet One 1200.
Any advice I can share with him, would be great.
If he ever gets on the forums please reserve the name (JeffShouldHaveBeenOntheForumsSooner) for him.

Place a pump in the main tank with tubing hooked up to it to connect it to the chiller inlet. On the outlet side, connect a hose running back up to the main tank. Since the connections should all be water tight, you shouldn't need to worry about it spilling water on the floor. The pressure on the pump will push the water back up if it can handle the head. If it can't handle the head, he will either need to raise the chiller some by placing it on a stand or get a stronger pump.

Is this that Jeff guy that isn't on the boards? What a loser.
So wait, he doesnt have a sump but his return pump is a Quiet One 1200? OH wait got it, the Red Sea Max has that compartment in the back.....hmm. I guess technically you could upgrade to a stronger pump - run a 3/4 in tube down to the chiller and back up again.....might be the only way to do it....

I guess you will have to tell Jeff he has an answer, but has to search the boards to find it.

I still think he might want to upgrade to a bigger pump. You're adding a lot more hose than whats on there now, so you'll see a definite decrease in water pressure from the return pump. I dono if he's running power heads or anything to compensate with so maybe he won't care.

I thought I already replied, but obviously I didn't.
He is using this pump as a dedicated pump for the chiller only. He still has his return pump and a Koralia 2 running in the tank, so he should be good.

Ah, see no wonder i was confused. I think technically if he wanted to he could run ALL the return through the chiller and it would only activate if the water temperature was too high. That way realistically he'd only need the one pump. I know thats how mike has his ran through his chiller on the Elos.
Geez this would be SO much easier if Jeff was just on the forums.

I agree about using one pump, but that wasn't thought about early enough and I definetly agree about Jeff being on the forums. He is going to owe me flowers on administrative assistance day!!!

I had to check how long user names can be and it looks like 20 characters is the longest that it allows, so JeffShouldHaveBeenOnTheForumsSooner! would be too long. Oh Well. Maybe we should set one up for him as "JoinTheLARKClubJeff"
