fish removal
Anyone have a fish trap that I can borrow? I have a orange lined chromis that is too big for his britches and needs some dicipline. He's too wiley for a net, even two. Anyone have some sort of apparatus or suggestions?

With many fish, you can shut the light off for an hour so they go into there resting place. When you turn the light on, they are stunned and slow to react and you can catch them with a net or two.

Best of luck! With my ORA Orchid Dottyback a while ago, I had to pull EVERY SINGLE ROCK out of my tank to get the %^$@!* thing out... :-( It wasn't fun... Hopefully your little guy isn't as smart as my dottyback was...
Interesting side note... The dottyback went into my sump until someone could pick him up, during which time he got sucked into the pump on my EuroReef RS80 and shredded into tiny purple bits! I'm certainly not one to enjoy suffering, but I really thought the dottyback's death was fitting, given what he put me through!
I agree with Brian that your best bet is to try to catch him in his "home" in the tank, right after the lights come on in the morning. If that doesn't work, perhaps you could make a very small harpoon??? :-)

I've tried to find his resting place, but I'm convinced he doesn't sleep...he never closes his eyes!!!! can you believe that?
I actually considered making a mini hawaiian sling...like for diving, a pole with rubber bands on one end for the force, and spikes on the other for impaling fish. I don't want to be this sadistic, but as Joe mentioned, the satisfaction might make it worth while.
oh, and yes, I know fish don't have eyelids...my weak attempt at humor.

I would have to suggest the turning the lights off trick, that worked for me when I had to remove a clown fish that was terrorizing another clown.... fought for 3 hours trying to catch them, turned the lights off and it was caught within 2 minutes.... good luck

Yeah, I turn off my light for a few hours and then go in to catch them too. Seems to work well for me. Good Luck!

If shutting the lights off doesn't work, there are people that fish them out of the water using a fishing pole and a small jig with the barb filed off. I've seen it done before and it works good, as long as the right fish is the one that wants the jig.

Go to walmart and just get a small pack of them (can't be more than $2)

you can always try a canning jar and a funnel inside with a little bait. if not a funnel something to make the hole entry smaller.
