Question

Feeding Live Guppies to Aggressive Fish

It was recommended to me over the weekend that if I am having issues with my aggressive fish eating to feed them live "feeder guppies". What are your thoughts? I can't find anything on this subject.

I used to feed mollies to a lionfish. Generally feeder fish are starved nearly to death from most pet stores and it is better to gut load them first. I would try to keep the majority of their diet marine foods like shrimp and prawns, FW critters may be missing important nutrients for a SW predator. I have found that few fish can resist the lure of live food, live shrimp seem to be particularly relished. Also you may ask if they treat feeder fish with copper or medications. HTH

Did I ever tell you about the time Brasky went hunting? Well anyway, Brasky decides he's gonna hunt down all four members of the Banana Splits. He stalks and kills every one of them with a machete. They all beg for their lives, except Fleagul.

Once in awhile might be alright. Feeding freshwater fish to salties can give them liver problems. I believe, Old Matt will be sure to tell you. The question I always had was PE mysis is from a glacier lake in Canada (frewshwater), but you can feed them to salties with no problems.

Yes try the silversides on a feeding stick and move it around in front of them. Feeding marine fish freshwater feeder fish is pretty unhealthy for the marine fish, I suppose it is better than nothing but really try silversides on a feeding stick.

feeding went alittle better tonight. I put in three guppies then a couple of silver sides and the fuzzy lion fish finally ate one of the silver sides. So maybe I can get him interested with a guppy hourdourve then the main course. lol Then I can completly take away the guppies. It is really neat to watch them eat live food.

Has anyone tried ordering live food online? That would be better for them.

I think a live feeder now and again is a good treat. But I think getting it to eat mostly silversides, prawn, shrimp etc is a good plan
