Drs Foster & Smith Trip
Matt (aquaman777 aka "young Matt") has suggested a trip up to the Dr's Foster & Smith home store in Rhinelander WI. We've decided on a date of next Saturday March 7th. I know its kinda short notice but sometimes spontaneity is good.
Couple things to consider. As long as you call ahead, ANYTHING that is in the DIVERS DEN on their http://www.liveaquaria.com/diversden site can be obtained in WI, however almost all of their other livestock comes from their other location in CA. As they do typically carry a section of saltwater fish there it isnt the same avaliability as there is on the site. There is however a very large coral frag tank setup with LPS/SPS/ and softies and CURED liverock.
Also ANY of the drygoods in the catalogs or on the website are avaliable at the home store for the prices listed. For example, I bought my outer orbit fixture there last time I was up there for the listed price, so I wouldnt have to pay shipping and "bulk" additional charges.
Another thing I usually get up there is salt, you get the price of the salt without shipping. For those of you who are reef crystals or instant ocean users, they did just change the packaging so that you can buy a box of salt with 4 sealable bags inside rather than the buckets. The buckets of reef crystals are $41.99 for 160 gallons, the boxes are $49.99 for 200 gallons with a $5 mail in gift card, I'm going to do that go forward and reuse the same salt bucket I think. IO is $41.99 for a bucket and $44.99 for a box with the $5 gift card.
I've got a call out to one of the guys in the coral facillity to see if there are enough of us from our club/clubs that we might be able to get a tour of the coral facility.
Sorry that was kinda long winded. Perhaps we should arrange a meeting place somewhere in lacrosse and try and carpool up there. Previous times we've parked in the back of the rainbow foods parking lot near petco.

I'm definitely up for going! If anyone else from EC is planning to go, we should work out carpooling, or somewhere along the route to meet up with the LARK members. If anyone from EC is planning to go, please post so we can figure it out. Otherwise, I'll have to work out a place (Tomah?) to meet up with the LARK people so we all get there at the same time.
Thanks for arranging this sweet trip to Rhinelander!
Joe

I might be up for another trip up there as well. I am in Wisconsin Rapids, about 2 hrs straight south of Rhinelander. Was just up at the retail store and picked up a mag 18 for my skimmer. SUPER nice to be able to pick up items on Saturdays without having to pay shipping etc.

Wrong weekend, my ten year old nephew asked me if he could come over that weekend. He wants to watch all the Star Wars episodes back to back. I was so proud of him.

lol. I've seen those a couple times over the last few weeks. They're a black Tomato Clown, and only one guy in the world currently breeds them. They are from a protected area of the Great Barrier Reef, so only one guy has them and is breeding them. Well, at least that's what I read a week or two ago on Reef Central or somewhere when I saw them for the first time. I hope someone gets one of these pairs and starts breeding them so that the price can slowly come down. I'd love to have a pair, since they're very cool looking. But I'd never pay $6000 for a pair of fish... lol

Looks like we should start pooling club funds for a pair to start breeding!

Matt why not get them? You get two fish instead of one. Great deal!

And while we're spending money to breed ultra-rare fish, why not invest in a big cone skimmer to keep ultra-pure water for the Honeymoon Suite Tank? :-)

While you all are doing that... I'll start construction on the 12,000 gallon tank for them to reside (seeing they would be rich fish they need the best of the best fish tank) as well as a 5,000 gallon sump. I mean doesn't it make sense 17k gallon of water for two clownfish?

On a serious note... If I were to buy something from them... Could you guys possibly bring it back with you? I'd be willing to pick it up from one of you guys in LaX if they will let me do what I want to do. I've got a coral BM'd from their site that I want and if they'd be willing to allow pick-up then I think I would be willing to buy it from them. (I'd just buy it then it would be 100% paid for before you guys even got there). But, depends on two things though. First thing that you guys actually go and are willing to pick it up for me. Second thing they will allow pick-up lol.
