They even have a video on the website of this new light. It looks really cool, but I'm really not sure about LED's after the whole "PFO going bankrupt" thing recently and all of the customers with the Solaris LED fixtures being left with fixture problems and nowhere to turn to... I really hope this company got it "right" with LED's in thie fixture, because it looks sweet!

Dude thats awesome. Still VERY expensive but I still think this might be where aquarium lighting is headed. Bulb life and electrical expense are close to nothing. How could you go wrong?

agree, you cant go wrong with something that will usually always cost a lot at first, and then pay itself off in less then 2-3 years. I have been holding off on getting LED lights because of how new they are in the hobby, but can definitely see why they are considered.

They are nice setup but not really made for Reef tanks best use for them that I have found so far is on a FOWLR and Freshwater planted tanks.

These have been out in Asia for a while...guess they are available here now...as stated they are really designed/marketed for high end FW tanks...very cool all the same.

I would still hold off on leds for along time. Nice post though cary. Has anyone talked to people that have led setups and are happy with them? I haven't heard people that own them happy about them. At a large reef store down south the owner wished he never bought a few setups and then he tried to sell me one of them just to get rid of them he said.

I had LED lights on my nano, never had a problem with them. I really liked the look of them, but honestly, I dont think the fish could care less if theyre there or not (somepeople believe it helps the health of the fish to simulate actual moonlight)...

Aaron is talking about LED's as the main source of lighting, not moonlight LED's. I really think LED's could be the "future" of reef tank lighting, it's just that right now they are full of problems. PFO's Solaris LED fixtures were really cool looking and seemed to perform pretty well, but people had banks of LED's burning out, power supply issues, etc. Also, I think people tested them and found them to not have as much PAR as was originally expected or advertised, but that I'm not 100% sure of.

There's no doubt that if LED's are perfected, they will come down in price over time and be desirable for their energy cost savings and their lifespan due to not having to change bulbs. It's anyone's guess how long it'll take to perfect LED aquarium fixtures for our coral-growing use. With PFO now bankrupt because of patent infringement with their Solaris LED fixtures, it will probably be a little while before someone steps in and starts taking the technology further again. So, for now I'm going to stick with my T5's and wait for something newer, cooler, and better to come along...

Well if the thread Jason put up about the DIY led system comes to pass, then I think we will all be getting one.

I'd considered LED's too, but it's not proven yet for good growth, and way too pricey. I think the moonlights are really nice, even during daylight, for the shimmer, though they probably don't do too much for growth.
