CBS (Coral Banded Shrimp) are one of those things that some can and can not keep... I personally have tried 2 different times and failed both times... It seems like they are just a hit or miss type of thing and I'm not sure why!

Ok, here is an update, lost all but the cocoa worms, they are all looking ok. The results, lost the blue linka and the orange that has been in my tank for over a year, the yellow watchman passed the other morning and now I found the purple reef lobster dead, I hate to say this but it was a complete waste of $35 dollars. I really hope others have had better luck but I will not do this again sorry to say, because the prices were great but I guess that's what you get.
Matt at OTP, if you are reading this I really want to get another reef safe (semi-safe) lobster so keep a look out for me...
Thanks
Cary

In my experience, the corals were in pretty good shape and have done well. My shrimp are doing ok too, but don't know if I'd order fish/inverts again. I would get corals, if only to add some new diversity to my/the club's tanks. Yes, there were unforseeable issues with the shipping, and I know that it's tough to get a straight answer, esp when you're dealing international and transshipping, but I think it was handled well for the first time. Things will be more smooth next go around I feel.

Temp. We are way to cold up here to get transhipped items this time of year. Then summer is to hot. You have the spring and fall. I have done it before with the same results many times. I would blame the shipper far more than the reciever as they should know better not to ship into this climate and at this time of year. BUT, once paid you get the run around. Its very difficult to pull a fish out of the water in Bali and then have it here in WI/MN 6 days later. And as hansmatt says, things do get smoother and I do understand we all want a better product at a lower price.

I am sorry that you lost what you had. I wish I would have gotten a chance to talk with ya at the meeting. I know I should have known better but I thought I would give it a chance. Sometime you have to do that these days. Think about it this way tho. if you would have gone somewhere else and bought those items and paid quite a bit more then what you had paid. which one would you be more upset about. I know if I do this again with the fish and inverts order I have my qt system all setup now to handle them in house. That way if anything dies or isnt well I will take the loss. I should have done that first but I didnt so nexttime I know better.
As for the temp. That dosent matter in my opinion now days. When jason and I opened the boxes the tempature inside the boxes was still quite warm and all of the heat packs inside were still quite hot. Now they were only in the cold temp for one night. Now what do you think if you order from any other online suppler and they ship it to you now are those corals under the same conditions as what was shipped to us. I think they were because they were in the cold for only one night. The corals are shipped to my suppler saturday night and they go over everything and then are shipped to use for monday morning arrival. I was told by a few very reliable people in the business that the livestock is only out of the ocean enviroment for at most 30 hours and that as long as they are kept warm and in a safe enviroment and packaged proplerly. With O2 and carbon in bags they will be fine for up to 36 hours.

Hopefully it works out for you. I've been told the same thing by very reliable people in the business too but after 15 years of owning a pet store I will also go along with my what I have learned doing so.

all mine where doing good untill the tank issue......now the only thing i have left is the cleaner wrasse.....i know some people grip about the shipping but that may be cuz they are used to orderin form foster/smith or other places that HAVE the item on hand......well then yeah of course itright at your door the next morning.....
ive never dealt with ordering on line so therefor i have no opion on the shipping on this order......but i know that what I picked up was alive when i got it....
but i agree with some i think if i get in on the next GI order ill just do corals. might be higher shipping but after seeing some of the stuff WELL WORTH IT....
i think im done with fish for now....untill time to restock then im only gona replace with 2 fish.....and then ill just be needin coral.....and ofcourse a better system.....which is in the workings.......
wonder if there was an experation date on the fish since they are dying around the sametime!!!! LOL j/k

I've ordered fish from FS multiple times, as well as purchasing locally from OTP...the FS prices are a bit better, but then you end up paying more with the $35-40 shipping, so unless you order a lot, it's not worth it for $ savings. FS does have a fantastic guarantee...15 days if organisms perish. We hope to give the best care possible, but sometimes things don't work out. There is no way a smaller business can offer this because the markup is so slim.
That being said, thought corals were less expensive, you can pretty much double or triple the price when figuring shipping. Even still, some of the corals are pretty nice for the $40-50 that you ultimatey pay. For me, the diversity of getting new organisms is important, but there is a huge risk (for me) spending $100 to get a few corals that you don't know the size, color, quality, or pretty much anything at all about the organism. Like Condiman said, sometimes you take a risk and it pays off, other times...you have to eat it.
