bulb disposal
hey guys where do you take your cf bulbs for disposal? I wanna do the right thing and dispose of them properly rather than pollute our ground water. Not just my cf's on my nano but T5 and halide bulbs too.

I think that you can bring them to the recycling center. I've always had them mysteriously break after I remove them. So, I've never had to worry about it before but, if I knew of a proper place to bring them then maybe I would take better care of them not to allow them to break.

I figured I take them to the county recycling center when they do there flourecent bulb recycling day.... they only do it once a year here... One thing I thought about with bulbs (MH's) that are replaced not because they are burnt out but because they are old, maybe as club we should keep a few around just in case somebody has one burn out and can't get one ordered right away to replace it, in my opinion and old bulb is better than no bulb, this way as well maybe people could try different K's if somebody has an old one laying around...Just a thought....

I would be interested in trying out a few different bulbs if people are just going to throw them away. I have an xm 10k right now, but I used to run vho actinics with it and now I don't. I might want something bluer, like a phoenix, but it's hard to spend the cash if you don't know what it will look like.

Absolutely right Rotties!
Cary I think that is a good idea! I will hold onto my halides when I order new ones. I will check the recycling spots to see if there is a certain time I can bring in CF.

Casey - What type of halides to you run?
Everyone else - Here is the La Crosse County hazardous waste website if you were unaware of it. It is free to recycle most items for La Crosse County residents, but there is a fee for non-residents or businesses. The items that they do charge for such as computer equipment is usually much cheaper than bringing them anywhere else. http://www.co.la-crosse.wi.us/solidwaste/HHM/

La Crosse County has a recycling center on Hwy 16 N of Woodmans that takes Flourescents. The Cty website has a brochure with days and times or call 785-9999. For those out of county I'm sure we could do a pickup at the meetings and have a resident take them there. They also recycle ballasts.
Guess I should read to the end of posts before replying .

I run 250w SE bulbs, so my bulbs won't do you any good.

The only down side to trying used old bulbs is your colors might be really off, if trying to find something with a different K
