Well, I don't think the issue is not doing a QT on the three Nasos. SWE had the second Naso for nearly a month before I bought him, and they had him in QT for a week. Peggy had the third Naso for a few weeks conditioning/quarantining him before he went up for sale. I think if there's a problem with a parasite or anything, it's already in my tank. But, since no other fish are sick or anything at all, I don't know. For all I know, it could have been being bullied by another fish in my tank that I just never saw, maybe while lights were off or something. Who knows... I'm done with Nasos (or at least trying them, lol) for a long while. I'll probably try a new fish or two over the next few weeks/months, but we'll see. Since this has only been a Naso issue, I doubt I'll have any trouble with another type of fish. Time shall tell. But, the next fish I put in the tank will be a smaller, cheaper fish.

If anything, it would have been something brought in by the first Naso, come to think of it. All three died the same way, and it seems to just be a "Naso thing" going on in my tank. So, I'll leave it Naso-less for a long time and hopefully not have any trouble with other fish...

well good luck, I'm hoping these fish troubles pass very shortly so we can get on with extending our livestock.

Yeah, true that. I'm just lucky that it only affected one (well, three...) fish. Thankfully it's not something that's crashing my tank or anything. Still though, it'd be nice to know what's going on with Nasos in my tank. Oh well, we'll probably never know.
I'll just have to put a pair of Candy Basslets in the tank next...lol j/k
I actually am thinking about putting a low-cost tang in the tank, like a yellow tang or something, to see if a different type of tang would be just fine or not. I know it's kind of cruel to do that, knowing there's a chance it could die, but I really don't think there's anything wrong with my tank, since anything that would have affected these three Nasos should theoretically be causing problems with other fish..?? The trick would be finding a cheap tang that doesn't have ich, since I don't want to bring anything bad into my tank with this "experimental" tang, if I were to go through with this.

Well, ironically, I'm now bringing this thread back to where it started... "blue hippo tang" lol
Stopped by Petco after work today hoping I might find a cheap Yellow tang or something. Instead, I saw this AMAZING blue hippo tang for sale. I mean, this fish had no signs of being a "Petco fish" at all, which was surprising. No spots of ich or anything that indicated any bit of poor health at all, fat, healthy-looking, swimming around actively and grazing on the algae clip and everything in the tank, etc.
So, he became mine. Didn't expect to spend $45 on a fish today, but stranger things have happened. And that's actually about half what I'd expect to pay for a healthy blue hippo tang of this size at All-Reef, which is nice. So, I just couldn't pass up this fish.
Anyway, gave it a nice slow acclimation, and he's swimming around like he's on crack or something, so I like the activity he's showing already. I turned off the four middle bulbs in my T5 fixture, so it's just two Blue+ bulbs for now. Looks great, so hopefully it doesn't pull a Naso on me...

You're awfully brave Joe with putting a tang straight into you main display tank without having it go into a q-tank for 6+ weeks first. Hopefully, all of your fish remain healthy.

Reef keeping is more fun when you put a little unpredictable danger into it.

The blue hippo tang is great. Extremely active, very friendly and plays with the other fish. Much better than a Naso, I think. (And not just because he's still alive! lol)
Still no idea what's going on with Nasos in my tank, but oh well, I'm done with 'em...

actually Joe, I purchased a regal from Matt OTP, about a week ago. That fish eats like no other and is very active and tiny. I put him straight into my 55 which is low saline and never once saw a sing of Ich or anything else, due to the lower saline. im going to feed him well and get him bigger before he goes into the DT. So must just have been the store lol.
