If you're ordering food too I believe all of the Ocean Nutritian ones have garlic in them now. A while back I did an order from fosters to get all 4 of their types of flake (Formula1, Formula2, Prime Reef, & Brine Shrimp Plus) mixed them all together in a bowl and my fish love that. Then every other or every 3rd day I feel frozen instead. Lately that Rod's that OTP got in, which I'm 95% sure has garlic in it too. Actually just reading through the ingredients on a couple of these looks like they have Vitamin C also.

Ok, I'll admit that I spoil my fish and only feed frozen foods...lol. I bought $50 of frozen foods (pretty much every type they sold) from Petco, thawed them, mixed them all together by hang in a big bowl, rinsed them several times to get any unwanted organics out that might have been in there, and then froze it in a huge ziploc bag in a 1/4" thick sheet. I then smacked the bag on the counter a few times to break it up into large chunks. When I feed, I break off a chunk roughly the size of a nickel to a quarter, soak it in my additives for about 10min, mix it up to make sure there are no big chunks, and then pour it into the tank. The fish go friggin' INSANE once the food hits the water, and within a few minutes they've consumed it all. It's actually quite interesting to watch.
Anyway, I spoil my fishes, and maybe the super varied diet of frozen foods is why they are so healthy and vibrant, but I really think that since I've been soaking my food in additives, it's really helped bring the health and color of my fishes to the next level. The way I look at it, the more varied and enriched the diet of my fishes, the better the health of my tank overall, and my fishes see me walk near the tank and the immediately swarm to me thinking I'm going to feed them. I must be doing something right.

Another thing to mention, I definitely overfeed my tank, so don't do what I do unless you've got a really healthy amount of filtration. I've got a big, oversized skimmer, and I just started dosing MB7 (bacteria) and will be starting vodka dosing in a few weeks. If you can't pull out as much as you're putting into your tank, don't follow my example or you'll probably have a massive algae outbreak and/or kill your tank...

yeah we dont need to kill the tank lol. I do flake food mainly for the amount of protein in it. Brine and other frozen miss that amount of protein for the most part. I will be getting some rods food from OTP soon, but im sure he's out by now. So far the new tang i purchased is doing well. And i havnt lost a fish for over two weeks and even saved my naked clown. He's about 100% now, just raising the salinity back up to normal level before i make the switch. But i do like the idea of making a frozin sheet of food lol.

I've heard of guys who make that frozen adding stuff to it like flake, real garlic, and stuff. Supposed to be the way to go. Although my wife would KILL me if I did that with our blender.

WHAT THE **** IS GOING ON???!!!???!!!??????????
Well, I'm now officially wondering if there's some sort of parasite or something in my tank that kills Naso tangs...?? He looked AWESOME yesterday all day, and now today he's dead, just like the other two... I have absolutely no explanation. This one was eating well, very active and social with the other fish, everything... Absolutely no signs of anything but good health, and then today when I got home from work, I found this in the back of my rocks...
To those of you who have been losing tangs lately as well, is there anything in this pic that looks unusual to you? I can't see anything from this pic that makes me think this is an "unusual" death just by looking at it. The eyes are gone because my clean-up crew has clearly been nibbling on the Naso for a bit after it died. But, I can't come up with any explanation for this Naso's death. Any thoughts?
I guess it's time for me to give up on my dream of a Naso in the tank... I did everything right and by-the-book with this one, and still had the same result. There has got to be something going on with my tank, since this makes no sense. But all my other fish are fine, nothing has changed, etc... So, at least it's just a problem with this one type of fish... GGGGRRRRRRRRRRRR!!!!!!!!!!!

Man oh man...Joe...I'm so sorry...that offically sucks...
I talked with another guy (mike...picassoman) who lost two tangs within the last few months as well, also with no explanation. There must be some parasite, but even that doesn't fit because that many of us seem to have it as we don't share water, rock, etc. Live corals probably don't act as fish parasite carriers. This also suggests some sort of seasonal/temperature fluxuation, but not on so many different unrelated tanks with good husbandry otherwise. What the heck...?
H1Fish1 is going around now.

Yeah, I know. I mean, so many of us at the same time are having trouble with tangs, and we haven't traded any frags or anything... So all these isolated incidents at the same time just doesn't make sense. And this fish has been in a tank with the same temp since I got him, so I know my problems can't be temperature-related... Who knows...

It's the time of year when I've historically had problems with loosing tangs as well. My guess is that within the few weeks, the fish losses will stop and all will be well for several months.

Very strange, mine look great. Given I've been kinda slacking on the nori feedings lately but they look good. *KNOCK ON WOOD*

well i purchased a bristletooth from matt on sunday. He's doing very well. He's shy and doesnt come out much during feeding. He's eating, i use a turkey baster and spray some at him gently and he chews it right up. He's still out and about. Joe, id recommend running a QT next time. What I would do is Hypo. I know its not a preferred method for treatment, but if the fish has to work less in a new enviroment its worth it. Running Hypo will also prevent external parasites which then you dont have to treat with copper or other methods. run it like this for a while, then very slowly raise the salinity and run it like that for a few weeks. I find that putting a divider to isolate him to a small spot and use a ice cream pale to catch him works very well, no chasing and no stress, just the sress of a new enviroment, but this way he's already eating your foods, has already been in your water, etc... Id say its worth a shot, maybe with a different tang thought, as Naso's are not cheap. Again sorry to hear its very upsetting that between the three of use we have lost over half a dozen tangs, all different types at that.
