As Promised Josh Sump Pics

As I told you this afternoon when I was by your place I would get some pics up for you of how I have my sump run.

I would have had them up earlier... But, I was monkeying with my light fixture about why the MH bulb wasn't working. It turns out it wasn't the bulb as I tested it in one of the other sockets. It wasn't one of the ballasts (THANK GOD AS THEY ARE $100 EACH) it was something that could have been very bad. I must have had a wire that was arc'ing out in the fixture and ended up melting the wire caps together thus shorted itself out (thank goodness). So, I called my brother-in-law over who is a Journeyman Electrician *works for Town and Country Electric out of LaCrosse* (a good thing to have around in this hobby!!!) and he simply fixed the issue for me. Keep in mind I called him over before I saw the melted wires otherwise I would have fixed it myself. I just wanted him to test everything for me to verify that the ballast was working correctly.

But, back to what I started this post about here are the pics!

Here's the rest... I also took a video of the tank for those of you who haven't actually seen my setup (I know there are not that many of you who haven't though) as I felt that I needed to test out my new camera's video option =) But, I can't seem to upload it anywhere as it's just too big.

Looks good Josh, hows that plumbing working for the skimmer? Did you get that bad boy tuned in right? I have been messing with mine and trying different water levels/air ratios and think Ive got it in the sweet spot.

Actually Robert (I believe that was your name) my name is Jason (as it says on the bottom of my posts lol) and Josh is a member of our club that was asking to see some pics of my skimmer/sump area. But, as far as the skimmer goes yes I have it working quite nicely now that I finally figured out how to keep the dang chaeto out of the freak'n beckett's *pantyhose over the intake is what I did to achieve this feat*.

But, other than that things are working peachy now that I got new bulbs for the display. The color is a heck of a lot better as well.

So, do you guys go in and buy the pantyhose yourselves, or do you enlist a familiar lady for this task?

lol... actually I was with my wife when we bought them. But, I did buy them with the intent to be used on the fishtank. *Typically I used it on the spraybar from the sump after a water change to collect all the stuff that would be caught up in the line*. But, I had the waistline left so it worked quite nicely for what I needed it for! I think I'm going on a week already and I haven't had to clean the becketts since I installed this. This is quite a drastic change from having to clean it EVERYDAY and even that wasn't enough.

Thanks Jason!

The MR2 is skimming like crazy, I pulled out probably 4 gallon since I got it up and running. I am hoping this helps with the nitrates!

I can GUARANTEE that it will! As I've said my nitrates are a big goose-egg since I installed mine!

NO...you need something that is sealed for saltwater...and you run them 24/7, so efficiency is nice too...

No, the pumps that I have are Ceramic Sealed pumps (needs to be ceramic to withstand the saltwater). And the pumps are also defined as waterfall pumps. They would be what you would find running a water scape in a persons pond or something along those lines. But, these are designed to withstand just about anything that could be thrown at them (I think the dolphin pump new runs about $300 and the Blue-line runs about the same maybe a bit less new). *not what I paid mind you* (Not NEARLY what I paid lol). But, a ceramic one is what you need to look for.

I have a Mag 18 pump, meant for in-sump use that I'd give up. It is used, but works ok from what I can tell. Yours for the bargain price of $60 ...You will need to decide if it's too powerful for your application...I think it can run 1200gph or somthing big like that.
