Anemonie help

Looking fore a little advice from the locals.

I have a little (dime size) anemonie Petco gave me. It's in my 30 gal. 280 watts PC light, water parameters good. It's 2/3 up from bottom, hasn't moved since I put it there 2 mos ago. Happily eats the meaty treats I give it. Here's the part that seems wierd to me. When the tank lights are off, it will open fully (quarter size), but when the lights are on it rarely opens more than 1/2 except when I'm feeding it. I thought they loved light, the more the better. I'm reluctant to move it lower because I don't want it to start traveling. The current where it is is gentle, so I don't think thats bothering it. Also, the clowns and tang don't seem to seem to bother it.

Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Thanks, John

First of all, if it is dime sized, make sure that it is a good anemone and not one of the pest anemones such as aiptasia or majano. You can get good pictures at http://www.wetwebmedia.com/ca/cav1i3...mpressions.htm

Some of the pest anemones don't like as much light as the good (bubble tip, long tentacle, etc...) anemones. If it is a good anemone, I would leave it along unless it is shrinking in size. Moving it to another place would only cause it to become stressed out and could cause it to start wondering. Most anemones typically will do better when they get more light, so I wouldn't lower it down. If it doesn't like the amount of light that it is getting it would move on its own. I have some anemones that are within 6" of the surface under my 250w halides and their clones are 20" down under PCs.
