i thought it was not ok to have a purple and a yellow tang together? and i thought that most/all tangs needed more room to swim ...like 100+gallons... the tank is pretty...is it ok for the fish?

I wish that I wouldn't have started with a CHEAP 55 gallon tank and went with a larger set-up in the first place. Do you have a 180 that you are setting up spartaal?? I go through sparta quite a bit. If you need any help let me know.

my 2cents?
Get the best equipment you can affort the first time around.
Don't skimp on the skimmer and lights. If you have an oversized skimmer, you'll be able to use it on any future upgrade, and when your tank grows out & you get more livestock, you won't be wishing for a bigger better version. Get T5, VHO, or MH lights...I've heard of many people who are not pleased with their pc lights after a year or so...lower par, less bulb selection, etc.
Get a RR tank if you can...I've got a HOB overflow, which works fine, but man, I wish I had the clean in tank system
Get the quietest, most energy efficient pumps you can...some are super $, some are not (ocean runners heard good things, love eheim,)...both will pay back in $ and a happy spouse
There are a ton of locals here who are happy to help, though we each have our own opinions and experieces, you can learn from others in person or online
Read, Read, Read...lurk and listen to the experiences of others,
Welcome to TRT, and we hope to see you at a LARK meeting!
Matt

Couldn't have said it better myself Matt. I believe lighting and skimmer are the two most important pieces of the puzzle

Actually patience & proper housekeeping are the most important things in this hobby. Neither of which a lot of us have/had but, are things that all of us are forced to learn. Just remember that you don't need to buy the biggest things right away THEY DO GROW. And if you are looking for the best pieces right away you miss out on the "when did they get that big stage" not to mention it saves a ton on the pocketbook.
Glad to have ya around as I said in the private message I sent to you... Feel free to get ahold of me and if you ever need any help I'm probably no more than 5 miles from your house (less than that if you live right in Sparta as I'm only a few blocks from the Hospital).
Jason

i would say the bigger the tank-better..cuz we quickly learned to not like our smaller...but i do not feel you always "get what you pay for" we are very impressed with our skimmer that was not hard on our wallet..but obviously...we love that they rest of our items are not cheap...atleast they where not for the first owner..we got a great steal.

I actually have three tangs (tangs are a schooling fish) and I have had them all since they were about 2" babies. They all get along really well so I was lucky. My thoughts to a new commer would be plan everything out really well in the begining. I can't event count the amount of $$$ that I have spent on PVC, equipment, tanks, lighting, skimmers, corals, fish... only to change my mind and sell it all off. Large tanks are nice, but the cost catches up to you so plan it well and buy items that are on your list.

we are finally happy with the size of our tank...so we will not be changing anything... i know we will have to pay for the lights on this bigger system...but it is worth it. it is nice to know that we are getting a good deal when we shop for things though--
