220 Build Thread

Here's a few pics of my new tank and fish room.

220 Display tank w/ 55 gal sump. I've never realized how small a 55 gal tank can really look.

Here's the beginnings of the wall that the fish tank is built into.

And here's the tank on the stand. I sure am glad that I have a 6" ledge around the sides and back of the tank to stand on. The tank is really high and a 30" tall tank is tough to reach the bottom. BTW- The tank height is built so high since was are planning on our future bar to be installed in built of it.

Here's a pic of me starting to fill the tank with goodies. Notice how small the standard 55 gal tank that is being used as the sump looks.

Here's a couple pics of the tank after my 14.5 hour tank move on Thursday. There is plastic wrapped all around the tank and fish room to keep dust and fumes out of the tank. The pics don't show how awesome the tank currently looks since the plastic looks way more fuzzy in the pics than it does in person.

BTW - So far, my only casualty is one small blue chromis that looked weak prior to the move and I thought was going to die a week or two anyway.

Looks good! That tank is huge. It makes the 55 look like a fish bowl! I can't wait to see it done. Do you have any idea on the stocking list?

The tank is an upgrade from my 125 gal tank, so it already has a bunch of fish and corals in it. the current fish include 1-yellow tang, 2-blue chromis, 2-false percs, 2-tomato clown, 1-6-line wrasse, and 1-blue finned damsel. I'd like to get some more tangs and a mandarin once my house is finished and I don't need to worry about chemicals or dust getting into the tank and having it crash.

Brian,
Glad to hear the move went well. Did you have your RODI setup, or did you bring 40 buckets over from your old house? I can only imagine how nice it will look in a few months. I have a few parts for the rodi, let me know when you need them. I like the build progression thread...keep it coming!

I'm impressed and in awe yet again Brian. The tank I thought looked great before the move and now I can only imagine what it looks like with the added room you now have. I'm not sure if you are going to be around this week but, if you are I wouldn't mind stopping in sometime and seeing it. Maybe I'll save you from having to stop out to work and drop the tubs off. Partially because I just landed myself a new job starting Monday in Black River Falls at D&S Manufacturing. So, this week will be one of my last chances to be close enough to you without having to drive dramatically out of the way =). I'll p.m. ya my cell number so you can give me a time that works for you (if it works at all). Keep up the good work!

I took a few pics from inside of the fish room last night, but I forgot to bring the pics in with me this morning. Hopefully tomorrow I can post them for you guys.

Matt - Regarding the RO/DI water - I had to brign all of the water from my current house. So far, I brought over the 220 gallons for the main tank, 40+ gallons the sump, and 45 gallons that is sitting in a Brute trashcan ready to be used for water changes and topoffs. I plan on bringing another 40 gallons over in the next day or two before I'm totally out of my current house. I don't want to hook up the new RO/DI unit to the newly installed well until I get most of the initiall sediment out of the system. When the water was first turned on, the water was very brown. Now it finally looks clear, but I want to run the well a little more before connecting the unit. If it works for you Matt, I should have time on Thursday afternoon to pick the parts up.

Jason - I was going to grab the buckets and drop them off at your work, but someone moved them over to the new house by mistake on Saturday so I need to find them. I'll try to do that tonight. The green rubbermaid containers are at my current house. I could very easily drop the containers off at your work either tomorrow or Thursday, or if you want to see the tank, you can come over to my new place and take a look. I MAY be able to be over at the new place by teh time you get off of work on Thursday, otherwise the earliest that I'll be out there any other day this week is around 5:30. If everything goes good, I'll try to host the January meeting.

Trust me when I say that the plan was that the new house would be 100% complete before I moved everything over to the new tank. Unfortunately, that didn't happen and I have to be out of my current house so I didn't have much of a choice. Hopefully everything makes it through the next month or so.
