Zoa's 29 gallon mixed reef

Alrighty here we go...

I am planning on a 29 pallon mixed reef with a 6inch DSB. This is going to be as basic as possiable. Being as this will be my first tank to care for completely on my own I am going with out alot of the big gadgets.

1) 29 gallon used tank w/ stand and canopy
2) 150watt double ended metal halide w/ 2x 55watt actinic pc's-traded 2 clams that had outgrown the main tank for the light fixture.
3) Since there will be no sump, flow will provided by 802 powerhead and
if needed a Iwaki md-20rlxt- freebie left over from the 105 gallon we
took down.
4) If needed CPR backback since I will not be running a skimmer unless
absoutly needed.

Rock/corals:
1) 25-30pds liverock from the main tank and sump- freebie (extra rock
leftover from the aquascaping, due to my landslide)
2) Many different zoanthid frags that I have been collecting/trading for
the last couple weeks, also zoa frags from my main colonies in the
main tank.
3) Xenia frags from main tank and Anthilia frag from wiskey recvd in trade
4) Brown bodied green polyp frag Acro frag from main tank- freebie due to
aquascaping
5) Neon green Pavona frag from main tank- freebie due to aquascaping
6) many other frags to be listed at a later date as I see how they are
recovering from aquascaping/fragging/Q.T

Fish:
1) Nemo & Dorie - J/k
1) Cleaner shrimp
2) small copperband butterfly (depending if the fish is eating @ the store
and the fish's overall health)
3) if available a blue spotted jawfish, if not any jawfish will do
4) Laboute's Fairy Wrasse (If my lfs owner friend comes through, if not
another wrasse of some sort TBA.)
5) assortment of snails( ie: turbo,astrea,bumblebee )

Pics will be to follow as I am currently setting everything up and cleaning up the area where the tank will be going (Our house is being remodeled). I just need to meet the deadline. If you have any questions or comments please feel free to let me know. Remember this is my very first time doing a tank on my own and I might have lot's of questions. I'm trying not to involve my husband or wiskey...this will be all me...gulp...ok, here we go!
Please excuse the bad grammer and spelling (it's been a long day @ work )

Thanks! I'm kind of nervous with both whisky and sharkbait watching my every move. With the other tanks I had back up, but I'm insisting on doing this on my own as much as possiable.

I should mention that the copperband butterfly will only be a temporary holdover until it outgrows my tank then it will go into the 90 gallon or the 240(if it's up & running by then). I am only getting a very small one so I can be sure it eats prior to letting it loose in the larger tank.

Your Nervous about us eh Zoa? Don't worry, we have our own tanks to worry about

Looks like it's going to be a great setup, let me know if you need a hand.

It's beginning to sound like the 90's re-scape was less of an accident

Yeah I said the same thing to my husband, I can figure this out on my own... then I met Whiskey on here and if it weren't for Whiskey I don't think I would have a tank!!!!!!!

So since I don't know him in person does that still count as doing it on my own

I bet your tank will turn out great!!!!

Ok, I have the tank and stand up. ran into a problem with the light so now I need to figure out how to mount the light fixture to the canopy. Right now the light fixture is sitting on sawed off 2x4 pieces of wood just to check the lighting scheme. I'm thinking of making a thin shelf on both sides to hold the light but am stuck. I don't know if this is the best possiable way...any suggestions? I will post pics later (have to run and buy new batteries, went to take pics and the camera turned off )

I suck at that kind of stuff, but I did just run a canopy pole in the general discussion, the guys posted some good pics that might help with mounting ideas... I usually search pics until I find somthing that makes sense.
HTH!

and I broke the #1 rule and put a fish in the tank prior to the cycle being finshed he seems to be doing well. My daughter named him Pilar, he is a purple pseudochromis. I know he wasn't on my list but he was $15.00 and a really bright purple. He is doing really well, out swimming, checking out the rocks.
